Re: [VAC] Magnets on Aluminum?

Elisa, enough people have told you "no" that I suppose you accept that as true,
which it is. BUT: an option that will work is to glue, screw, or rivet a
flexible magnetic strip to the interior wall where you want the curtain to lie
against, then attach or insert another strip to the curtain itself. (Test
it to get the orientation correct--some magnetic strip acts polarized and will
not attract as well in one orientation as another; i.e.180 reversed). Some high
quality energy-efficient insulated shades use this technique to seal to wood
framed windows, which obviously are non-magnetic also.

Another workable idea is to use velcro. Small pieces glued to your interior
wall in strategic locations will do a fine job of holding curtains in place.
But use the right glue--it has to be stronger than the velcro, or it will pull
right off when you try to pull the velcro apart. A rule of thumb is to make the
"hook" side of the velcro twice as long as the "loop" side; the reason why this
is more effective is somewhat obscure but demonstrable in practice.

There are many variations to these ideas that will also work, but this should
give you a starting point.
