[SilverStreak] Hinge drama

Please excuse me. I enjoy the SS forum I like to get down and dirty straight 
answers to questions and there are obviously a fair amount of subject matter 
experts here but lady's and gentleman am I the only one or is this hinge thing 
just being taken to a level beyond reality? Why are we apparently delaying the 
reproduction of these hinges based on the quality of aluminum over pot metal? 
These units are 30-40 YO and older. I think the fact that anything lasted that 
long on a camper is amazing and if we could get the darn things recast in pot 
metal for a good cost and we get another 30 or 40 years out of it why not? How 
long do we want the new hinges to last? 60 70 80 years? and at what cost and 
endless debate do we want to pursue the task? Please don't take this hard remember 
I am a recovering 30 year military man. I do respect the experts in the crowd 
and do not discount your valuable input. I just cant help but wonder what the 
heck, its a trailer, very beautiful and rare bu!
