My 79 and 76 have the gold band but I have seen earlier that do not. I don't 
know when the gold started, but seems all the brands that used the trim had 
a period without the trim and then a start date. Silver Streak had a end 
time for the trim. It is likely that yours never had it rather than some 
alteration by the PO unless you find rivet R&R and other evidence reveals 
that work.

Juergen Eichermueller who is very good at identifying trailers. You may want 
to contact him eichermueller@BauNetz.de with sized down pictures and year of 
your trailer. He may know from the first trailer in 1949 when the gold trim 
started. The history states the trim ended with the 1985 Sterling and the 
company ended in 1997. I also would like to know the gold band period for SS 
and Streamline which may correlate as both makers had periods without the 
gold trim.
