This is a real problem for those who don't use their trailers very often, people see a lot of tread and little or no visible cracking of the sidewall and think their tires are safe. My personal rule is to buy upper mid grade tires, NEVER the lowest price tires, and change them out when they are 7 years old. When I buy new tires, I always check the date code and never buy the tire if it is more than one year old. The really sad thing is that many new trailers are delivered with very low grade tires, often those tires wholesale at less than $40. I pull 8 trailers, including my Silver Streak and race car trailer. I have had tires blow on many trailers, and 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups, which is why I now only own 1 ton dually pickups, and always keep a good grip on the wheel. It gets exciting when you blow a left front tire on a pickup towing an 8,000 bulk chemical trailer on a two lane road with 18 wheelers coming the other way.
