My '83 has plumbing on top of the floor all the way down the side, past the 
toilet and across the rear wall.  The portion along the rear wall is covered 
with a piece of metal and screwed to the foor and wall.  I believe I would 
modify an older SS this way to keep from tearing up the floor unless it is already 
damaged from water.
