  Smoke is a bad thing! It usually means something has burnt, when electrical
devices are involved that would mean wiring or in the case of your motor the
windings of the motor. I'm afraid the only save would be a good electrical
shop to rewind the motor. Short of that, a new jack unit... which would likely
be quicker.
