I am handicapped by the fact that I have not accepted delivery of mynewly
purchased 66 Caravel, so I have not actually looked under an Airstreamyet.
Do Vintage Airstreams have leaf springs? Most of the fellas I knowwho use
their (non Airstream) rigs offroad do a spring over conversion. Thatis,
they reposition the axle under the leaf springs. This gains about 3"of
ground clearance, at the expense of some lateral stability. Most ofthese
rigs are only used locally (Long Island) so this may not be the trickfor
people who tow long distances on the Interstate.

I, too, do a lot of boondocking, and one of the biggest problems I
have with
my Bambi is the lack of clearance. Does this mean I could I put
taller tires
on it? I'm not sure what size it has now, but I definitely have a
clearance
problem. I can tell that my wheelwells have been widened (I don't
know
when), but I have the original wheels (I can tell by the hubcaps).
