The surge brakes worked well enough on my wife's horse trailer. Thebiggest
disadvantage that I can see is the inability to apply JUST the trailerbrakes
in certain situations. The other is the reliability factor when theystart to
age and aren't used daily.

Champion Trailer claims that they're much MORE reliable on boat trailersthan
electrics due to the immersion factor. Apparently, the hydraulics willstand
that better. They even sell a freshwater purging system so you canconnect your
garden hose and flush 'em out after launching/recovering in salt water.

I suppose they'd be all right on an A/S also if you took the time toP.M. them
when you repack the wheel bearings. This should be something done onan annual
basis anyway.
