My buddy's A/S tanks have some sort of electrical connector on the
valve
that a pigtail from the trailer connects to.

PS: if your auto-switchover valve is working correctly, I'm not sure
that a
guage is necessary or even very useful in the real world. A nice gadget,
yes, but not really necessary. Remember the old VW Beetles? They didn't
have a gas guage at all, just a Reserve valve that you kicked with
your
foot when the engine died. Motorcycles were the same for many years;
just
don't forget to turn it off the Reserve position when you filled up!
