Hi,
I'm taking on the floor...but the local advice I've found says leave the old
floor in place because of the nasty black tar adhesive that penetrates any
other flooring I'd put over it.
So, I see that many of you have redone your flooring. What did you use to
remove the black stuff after you got the tiles up?
Also...if using vinyl would you use tiles or roll...and what would you use
to hold the edges down?
I'd appreciate your advice and experience.
Thank you.

I got a message from Amazon about a book by Phil Noyes based on a PBS series
,"California Gold; A History of the RV in America". It is suppose to air in
the Spring of 2002. Has anyone heard of it or seen it on tv?

Sean, did anybody happen to see the segment on Airstream trailers and the
Airstream "way of life" that was shown on the Direct TV travel channel
Thursday night? Besides featuring a couple who were full timing, there were
several comments from James George, Jr. who wrote the "By George" column in
the Blue Beret for several years and his son, James George, III who was the
rally organizer for the Vintage Rally last November at the Top of Georgia
Airstream Park. Pretty cool.

Hi Everybody,
I've removed the shower and am going to reroute the kitchen vent pipe to
correct an older not-so-good repair.
Should I put a separate gray water tank in the underbelly for the kitchen
sink? Or just a capped-one-end tee in the drainline so that I can hook up
to one of those tote tank setups?
As is, does the kitchen drain back up into the sink or the black water tank?
I need a practical, workable simple system.
Please advise!
Thank you.

Hi,
Back to the floor...
What are people using for a finish strip along the edge of newly laid vinyl
flooring? I haven't chosen this yet, it depends on answers to questions
like this one!
Thank you for your help.

Hi Ken,

Any Stanadyne dealer sells the additive, but I suspect any auto parts store
has an equivalent. This additive is used to avoid having algae grow in the
fuel tank, clogging up the system and stalling the engine so it won't run.
I've never had that happen, but I only buy fuel at high turnover stations
and never from above ground tanks.

If you aren't a member of a diesel owners club with a monthly newsletter,
you might be interested in M&S Technical Services, 74 Bell Street, W.
Babylon, NY 11704 at phone (800) 832.8844. Cost is $30 a year.

I reread my note about 45 mph and see where it was misleading. Yes, I do
better than 45 mph with the 22' in tow, but not up steep hills. <grin> On
the straight away and down hills, it will go as fast as the speed limit.

As for kicking it into passing gear, that's okay if the current speed is
below 45 mph. There's no way the truck will accelerate beyond 45 mph when
going up hill with the trailer in tow.

On mountain hills, it will tow at 45 mph even 15 minutes later when the top
of the mountain is still up ahead. Unquestionably, there is plenty of power
to climb hills and mountains, just not faster than 45 mph.

Sorry about the confusing language I used in my previous note.

As for overdrive, I set the transmission on the drive setting and NEVER tow
in overdrive. Been there, done that and rebuilt the transmission. Lesson was
learned and not about to be relearned again.

My 6.2L diesel is naturally aspirated - no turbocharger.

It's a very pleasant truck to drive and we enjoy it immensely, especially
when not towing.

As an aside, I have a transmission oil cooler that fills the area in front
of any already very large radiator. I had a transmission oil filter
installed to ensure cleanliness of the transmission fluid.

We have traveled the continent extensively with various tow vehicles and in
each instance, I've taken very specific precautions to keep the temperature
of both engine and transmission below 200 degrees during the worst case
scenerio.

Your newer Suburban should be a joy to own and maintain.

Cheers,

Terry

John Deere makes an excellent additive conditioner for diesel fuel.

Since you only add 1/5 of an ounce per gallon the cost, if you bought a
gallon of the stuff, works out to just $.05 cents per gallon.

For a 40 gallon fuel tank you only need to add 8 ounces which works out to
just $.40 cents per tankful in my case. This is cheap insurance.

If anyone wants the name of the JD additive let me know and I'll post it.

Terry

I hope this is appropriate for the list...if not someone let me know.

Thanks for the info. What RPM at you at at 60mph, I'm at about 2700 in
drive which seems high, but the truck seems to hum along fine. I've got a
4:10 rear.

I'll take your advice for the diesel owners club (whats one more club) and
also for the additive. My temp climbs to 230 when I climb passes, but
comes back down quickly when the fan comes on, I figure it won't hurt
anything.

Yea I really like this vehicle. I had 64,000 miles on it when I bought it
from a friend of my cousin. They kept it perfect (not a scratch on it) and
I'm continuing to be very particular about it. I've put new shocks, hoses,
CDR valve tires, brakes and other things I can't think of. I hope it will
last a long time.

I met another Airstreamer who just bought a 95 and on it was a gear
splitter. Kindofa cool gadget that lowers RPM with the filp of a switch.
This was installed on a 4wd Suburban. It locks out the 4wd when engaged.
I'm going to check into it. Seems like it could be a good thing in the
flats when running in drive.

By the way I've been wondering to write you for a long time about the
Walmart on top of Raton Pass, still have not found it yet. I think it was
John at Oasis who was wondering also. (heehee)
