Re: [VAL] Water Heater

Robert and Hunter,
I was unaware of tankless heaters for RV. I have one got cheap $50 still new
in box 220 v I never installed in my kitchen. It has #8 min wire
requirements so you know it is going to pull some amps. Still I can see
whether propane, nat gas (don't know if made), or electric these should be
substantial energy and money savers not heating a tank and keeping a tank
storage hot. There should be a cost payout in a home. I would think if I
lived in a trailer, the cost payout would be very quick given the expensive
propane.

It would depend upon time - maybe. Both the SW6 and 10 DE burn at 12,000 BTU
so the factor of time to heat the volume would have to be figured. The
insulation is very good with zero clearance so volume heat maintenance is
good. Run time is minimal but still has to be maintained for the brief
periods. Propane heat is really high compared to nat gas so heat and re-heat
is fast. The added 120 v electric element claims 6 gpm demand increase.
Still it is a deplete tank volume.

The RV 500 is also zero clearance and will have excellent insulation. The
56,000 BTU burn is 2-1/3 times more propane use, but there is no tank to
keep heated and the hot water cannot be depleted.

I wonder in a high usage lifestyle if the tankless is still cost effective
vs seldom use. I would think so, but not as great depending on comparison to
a 40 or 50 gal home tank. I sure someone has done exact study.

I can't dismiss the good idea of not trying to keep a volume tank hot. That
makes a lot of economic sense. I note my nephews home in Plano TX has
tankless and PEX in this very expensive home.

I really appreciated the link. Their spec sheet is excellent. I wonder if
there are other makers and sellers of this type of product. The cost is
twice that of the SW10DE, and you can spend $4K for their total products in
one application, but depending on the circumstances it is a good buy. I like
to learn.
