I would treat the soft spot with penetrating epoxy and while you have the  
carpet up I would try to tilt the trailer side to side and run penetrating epoxy 
 along the edge to your unit so it can get under the channel and possibly 
prevent  rot in the future if you develop undetected leaks. Just a thought. If 
you are  not  busy for the next few days you would be most welcome to come and 
help  me install the new axles LOL
