Jim,

Uwe Salwender went through the same thing when he purchased new Dexter 
axles for this 63 Overlander.  I think he ordered the heavier axles with 
the lighter rubber rods and received the 12" brakes, although he went 
with disc brakes which are huge with double caliper pistons.  Let me 
know off list if you want his email address or maybe he will see this 
post and respond with the details.
