Daisy's technique is the cat's meow - there's no question of that.

BUT - in the meantime -

if you're going on a trip before you've had a chance to buy the parts 
and do the installation -

and if you'd like a temporary dead bolt for free -

I have one and will give the idea to you.

I'll send you a picture and you can install it tomorrow.

It took me less than an hour to make it from scratch.

I could paint it silver and it might not be noticed.
