RE: [VAL] Re: suburban heater

Alan,
I've found 3 things that will affect ignition - there may be others.
First, the sail switch which is sufficient air flow. Sounds like you have
that one covered if the swicth is operating when the blower comes on. Be
sure you have sufficient air flow for the switch to contact, not just enough
to turn the blower. Second is the thermal switch. It is really an overheat
switch, but if it fails it could falsely think there is an overheat
condition and won't allow the ignition switch to operate. Last is the
thermostat itself. I had an intermittent problem with mine for a long time.
It would work sometimes then stop for no reason. In frustration I connected
the wires together at the heater which bypassed the thermostat (and wiring
to the thermostat which was where my problem was), and the furnace started
right up. Of course I had no control except on and off, but I found the
problem and ran new wires to the thermostat.
Hope this helps.
Pete
