   The melting of plastic ground mats or rugs happens when the small 
inner "screen" door a 1964 or earlier Airstream, particularly one that 
has been polished, is opened and held back against the side of the 
trailer on a sunny day.  Its shape is concave and it somewhat focuses 
the sun's rays into a "hot point" that easily melts a plastic carpet 
sitting in front of it.  Hope this explanation helps.
