You know, I often wondered about how this can work.
I used to own a 198something Ford cargo van with a 5.0 V8. It was rated 
at 120hp, but had mega torque.
I used it to tow a rented trailer with my vintage MB on it all over the 
place, and it towed great.
I guess hp is not that  relevant when towing, it requires major amounts 
of good, low rpm torque. ( and the proper axle ratios)
