[VAL] RE: VAL New to group - Intro from Alaska

Hi guys,
Having stripped down many an Airstream now, and doing another, I can say
that the Airstream is built with many nasty items, from the fiberglass
insulation, to the plywood floor, to the vinyl wall covering, floor
coverings, propane appliances, particle board and vinyl cabinets,
polyurethanes, glues and so on - all in a very confined place. It's
amazing house much dirt and mouse poop can hide in even what looks to be
a very pristine trailer.

What you can do with an Airstream though, and what Healthy Homes does (&
charges well for it), is strip it down to the aluminum and steel frame,
and then rebuild it using acceptable materials and methods. That is why
Tad always has Airstream guts to sell.

So in your case, with a relatively original and good condition
Airstream, it would be a lot more expensive - and a waste of a good
Airstream to use it as a starting point. One idea would be if you could
get the trailer cheap, is to tidy it up and market it well (lots of
pictures, staged for camping, etc), turn around and sell it, using the
profit to help finance your rebuild. Other option is to pick up a beat
up interior unit (easy to find) to serve as your starting point.
