[VAL] [Fwd: Re: going to New Orleans]

here's what I got back from the Escapees group.

Looks like we all need to get educated before we can really
help. I'll be doing that in FL this winter.

Meanwhile, I will call the local chapter tomorrow.

I do have the local numbers for the LA chapters too, but I
will wait on those.

Hi Rocky,

I appreciate your caring enough to offer to help. You're
the kind of
person we need in the Doves.

With only limited Red Cross training, it is difficult to
define areas
needing your aid.

My best suggestion is for you to call a local Red Cross
chapter in an
affected area. You can get the numbers from Information.
Just tell
them that you'd like to volunteer as a "Local Disaster
Volunteer," which
is Red Cross Speak for local untrained people who'd like to
help. This
is how many of the Doves got started in Red Cross disaster work.

If you end up working with the Red Cross, please let me know.

Thanks again for caring and WELCOME TO THE DOVES.

Take care and drive safe, Scott Bonis
