[VAL] Control Knob for Water Heater
I've been off list for a couple of years, so perhaps I should re-introduce
myself. I'm Joel Wilcox and I own a 1966 Overlander.
I had a freak accident after starting my water heater the other day. Over
the winter a bird had nested alongside the tank of the waterheater. I
cleaned this out as best I could and vacuumed thoroughly. Apparently there
was enough stuff still available to burn after I got the heater lit that
fire moved outside of the burner and over to the control knob and actually
set the knob on fire!
I had already replaced the cover when I noticed the smoke. When I removed
the cover quickly, the knob was burning like a marshmallow.
I've removed it and ground it down so that it is now actually usable again,
but there is not much to work with and I had always depended on its
markings to remind me which way to turn it and where the pilot phase is
located, etc. I've since marked the actual shaft of the control with a - ,
+, a P to sort out the positions, but I'd sure like a replacement. It
looks like a pretty "standard issue" heater control knob.
The water heater is original and the control unit is the Honeywell version.
Thanks for any ideas.
Joel W.
