Re: [VAL] Back to steel tire stems and the why's and what-for

Hi David,

Please tell me about the tire pressure monitoring system you now use. I
would just be sick if I had a tire going down and not know it until it blew
up or caused a fire. I've had a tire get to the point of actually SMOKING
just one time and that was enough.

Just in case anyone is wondering what you should do if one of your tires
goes from smoking to actually flaming as it burns here is what the truckers
are told to do - TAKE THE TIRE TO WATER! That is, do NOT stop *unless* you
are AT the place where water can immediately be applied to your flaming
tire.

As long as you continue down the road with a tandem axle or triple axle
setup that Airstream uses AND you are not over your stated trailer gross
weight you "should be able to" continue on 3 or 5 tires. My example here
covers the double and triple axle setups. If you stopped to change a flat
(hopefully before it blew out or smoked and/or caught fire) and you didn't
have a good spare or any spare for that matter, you'd be okay to travel at
reduced speed *safely* to get to where you can receive help. Even though
the Airstreams *can* roll on 3 out of 4 or 5 out of 6 tires I wouldn't dream
of taking a road trip starting out like that! ;) And neither would any of
you. You wouldn't, would you? ;) I know you wouldn't.

Now please tell me about your tire pressure monitoring system, the brand
name, where you purchased it and how much it cost if you don't mind.

Thanks.

Tom
