I also have a 82, 280 Turbo Diesel Airstream.  I have a pretty high value on
mine since the entire interior has been updated with many $$$.  I currently
insure mine for $19,000. and will increase this now that the interior is
finished.  I do not have a problem with the insurance company.

I hope you win your argument, will help if I can offer any information.  No
excuse for a mechanic to use the wrong filter.  Any 82, 280 TD is worth more
than $15,000 in decent condition.  I would change the engine and
transmission to a Cummings (older Dodge truck), much better performance.
