Actually you need several feet more than this especially in Northern states 
as branches move about in the wind and hang much lower in the spring when 
loaded with leaves and wet.

I keep mine trimmed back to about fourteen - fifteen feet on a dry clear 
calm day to be safe. Tree limbs grow back, the smoked plastic 14x26 solar 
vent cover on top of my trailer as well as the SOLAR panels amongst other 
components like the original plastic refrigerator vent cover and AC cover 
are time consuming expensive repairs I don't need to do again...
