[VAL] Re: Towing 1958 22' Flying Cloud

Hi Steve:
Looking up the dry weight (2,730 lbs) and the hitch weight
(265 lbs) in the vintage website is what is listed for the '58 Flying Cloud,
22ft.
Add another 500 to 1,000 lbs of "stuff" to the dry weight to
come to the actual towing weight so you can compare towing weights for the
various vehicles you will be considering for a tow vehicle.
Personally, I tow my '58 Flying Cloud with a '95 Landrover
Defender 90, with a 3.9 litre V8 and 5 speed manual transmission. It has only
a
93 inch wheelbase which is probably a little on the short side for this rig.
A Defender 110 with the same size engine would have been a better choice,
but the horse came before the cart. I have the Reese sway bars which help
considerably, and my truck has Old Man Emu shocks which stabilize the tow
vehicle.
The only previous (original) owner of the trailer last towed
it with an older Ford van with a V8, I believe. His best words of advise to
me was to travel SLOWLY which I always do, never over 60 mph.
Best of luck in selecting a tow vehicle for your Flying
Cloud!
                                                 Peace,
