Re: [VAL] Fwd: Honda generator

That sounds like a good price to me. I bought one just before Christmas for
$925 from a local dealer (60 miles away). The other large towns close to me
in Montana wanted about $1000, and one salesperson told me they where price
fixing. The smaller town did a double take when I said I could get them a
lot cheaper on the internet. At the time I couldn't, most everyone was out
of stock. NY lights out, CA fires, south coast hurricanes. It was a bad
time to buy. The owner asked what I would give, and I said $925; SOLD.

Interesting thing here is I was running Xmas lights for two days and it
broke. I still think it had something to do with the freezing fog that
rolled down the river after I shut it off. I think it had a broken rocker
arm on the exhaust valve. Now I don't pull so hard on the rope. At least
until I know it is spinning free. I am also using higher octane gas. I
have had lot's of good advice on the list.

They fixed it without any questions in no time at all. In fact it was a
week before the roads cleared enough to drive the 60 miles to pick it up. I
think I will have two eventually, but they are so expensive.

The main reason we bought one was to keep the heat and water going this year
in case the electricity went out. Our electric company is having mucho
monitary problems, and a pole hit by lightning last year was not replaced,
just patched together. It is going to be great to charge the batteries in
the Argosy this summer.

My point is that if you work a little harder to buy local it often pays off
in better service. Service is getting so bad now days, even from the
locals, that it drives me nuts. Talking to computers and pressing numbers
for service is not for me. I could go into a rant here, but will refrain.
Most of you already know what I'm talking about. Then there are the medium
service price gougers and price fixers. Everyone is in a database, and they
know how much they can push us before we scream. :)

Take care all

Jim
