Very interesting to hear this... thanks for sharing, Patti!

I have a 1983 310 Motorhome that a tow truck dropped. I took it to the
factory for an estimate, but didn't have time then to get the work done.
I have been to a number of other places between Ohio and California
(including Inland RV, where Andy charged me $50 for an estimate he never
provided). I have about decided that a trip back to Ohio will be the
best way to get my many dents fixed.

Best regards,

Rik

Hi Daisy et al:

The charger is only running when I am plugged in to shore power (that's
how a charger works..). And I had the battery tested (as this was my
first thought as well..) It's fine. Anyone?
Thanks,

Hi Chris,

I don't see how it can be in boost mode if you are not hooked up to
shore power.

At any rate, I have never had that problem with my set up, I wonder if
your charge wizard is being cranky because your battery is tired. The
only sound I hear is the fan coming on when I'm using a fair amount of
power.

When boondocking, and your battery gets low, the Charge Wizard will sense
that and shift into boost mode. After all, the Wizard is sensing the
_battery_ state, not the InteliPower state. Since the InteliPower is not
receiving any AC power, the Wizard will stay in boost mode until you plug in
to shore power.

The Charge Wizard's internal circuitry senses the battery state and when
necessary, switches the InteliPower's mode. No AC necessary, but if the
InteliPower isn't plugged in, the Wizard tries again. That's why the light
cycles.

Nothing wrong with the unit. It just won't work when you are boondocking.

Hi Everyone:

I need help getting a very small trailer from Delaware to New Hampshire in
the next couple of weeks - does anyone have any suggestions? It's not
towable, so needs to be trailered, just 12' long and probably only about 500
lbs. I've been trying to locate someone who could pick it up for me but no
luck so far - I can go down with a trailer but would much rather pay someone
else to do it.

Please reply off list to stillwaterstudio@xxxxxxxxxx.com

Any leads would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

I'd also send the story to Airstream (contact info on their website).
Only after enough people do that will Airstream wake up and break Inland
RV's monopoly on Henschen replacement axles.

On a better note, there are two California RV places that are
recommended.

Nor Cal
Chavez R-V in Salinas

So Cal
C & G Trailer in Bellflower

It may not be much consolation but there are many other AS owners who
Andy and Inland has "stuck it to" over the years, it is good that you
posted your experience here with him so others who may consider using
his "service's" will reconsider and go to a more reputable AS dealer.
You should also send your experience to the pres. of AS and let him
know what kind of dealer they have in him, also post it on
www.airstream.com forum to let even more owners know what kind of
person and place they are. We put alot of time and money in our AS's
and we dont need that kind of dealer to give our hard earned time and
money to.

Wow - I'm glad to see I'm not the only unhappy person. I recently ordered a
refrigerator vent scoop for my Caravel. The price on line was $337 - which in
itself is pretty steep for a piece of fiberglass, but hey it does have to do
with an RV. Well I get the scoop with the bill in the box and they had
allowed themselves an extra $25 crating charge to put the scoop in the cardboard
box with two pieces of bubble wrap and tape it up. Then they charged $60 to
ship it. I wish this were the worst part - the scoop is 6" shorter than the old
one so therefore it, when installed to meet the curvature of the trailer
ends 2" above the counter. The stories go on and on. The replacement light
fixture covers are junk. They don't fit without trimming the jagged edges. They
look like Andy baked them in the oven from some plastic kit. They don't bother
telling you when you order them that you would have to buy the $16.00 switch
to make them work. I think I'll take the warnings and steer clear myself.

The plant is in Jackson Center, OH. I have my '68 up there right now. I'm
picking it up on Wed after having the frame straightened and stiffened as
well as the rear coach reattached to the frame. Pretty expensive, but from
what I've heard it should fix the drooping problem and the work was done by
the AS professionals. Chris is the service manager. Their number is
937-596-6111. Don't expect to be able to have any work done in a week or
two, they are always busy. I'll let you know how the repair looks etc when
I return next month. I can tell you that I got an estimate before
authorizing any work. Final bill was within a few dollars of the estimate.

In Joann's case, there is charging voltage to the battery, either from the
solar panels or the tow vehicle charge line. The Wizard senses that.

Jim,

You are incorrect, the friction sway bars can be used in conjunction with
the dual cams. From a Reese pamphlet, "Use our Friction Sway Control alone,
or with our Dual Cam for maximum control." It also says elsewhere to use
only 1 friction bar, not 2, if using the dual cams.

PS I love the dual cam on my SOB. Its a great old system.

It was my impression that Henschen axles can be purchased from any Airstream
dealer.

It was also my impression that Henschen sells to many other businesses
(perhaps even private individuals) in addition to InlandRV. The problem is
that Henschen has no idea of which of their products fits a '67 Airstream
Overlander. They sell product based on length, width, capacity etc. data.
Andy took the time to match specs with trailers in order to sell product.

For Airstream Inc. to "break InlandRV's monopoly" would require them to
educate their dealers to make up for Andy being shut down. Since I do not
think Airstream Inc. cares that much about their vintage products, I doubt
they will do much about Andy.

Subject: [VAL] Cargo Shifting: 1963-69 California trailer plate

    All,

Today I'm offering a license plate that would add authenticity to your
vintage Airstream. It's one of two I bought on eBay for myself and have
decided to keep the other. This one has seen a few miles, has less than
perfect yellow letters (VE 6744) on a black field and what remains of a
1973 on the left and a 1974 tag on the left and right upper corners
respectively, but is relatively straight with a few not too bad battle
scars. It also has the 63 embossed in the metal in the upper right tag
space.

I'll attach an eBay link for it that may or may not work. I've tried
doing this in the past with mixed results. If it does, you can see what it
looks like.

This item can be viewed for up to 90 days at:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6125816081&ssPageName=A
DME:B:EOAB:US:6
<http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6125816081&ssP
ageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6>

The bottom line is: If you think you can use this plate for your own
use and don't just want it to resell (I could do that), it's yours if you're
the first to respond, haven't had cargo shifted your way before (give
somebody else a crack at this one) and a are willing to pay the postage,
it's yours.

I'm no expert on the subject of plate registration but am told by those
wiser than I on the subject, that these plates cannot be used with today's
current California DMV rules. That said, I have heard that there's some
talk to include this plate along with 1962 and before plates that can be
registered if not already assigned.

That brings up another thought. I have no idea if this plate is
currently assigned. My only need is for a black and yellow one to go over
my present California (reflective white with blue lettering) plate that I'll
keep up to date. My Caravel is in the rear of our property with no plans to
tow her until the day way into the future when she sells. So I only want an
old one for the authentic period look.

    Good luck,

Why not sleep in the Bubble out front the night they fumigate the house?

Your belongings would be a lot safer if you slept with one eye open! Will
your house be TOTALLY locked up (gas tanks inside of house with fans blowing
it around) OR will they run the gas from tanks outside the house, windows
open so the gas goes everywhere under the tent?

Not to shake your confidence or anything but fumigation progress at homes
invites thieves during the night.

Want to know more?
