Tom,

As I understand it, if people will add the valist address to their address
book, the spam blocker will ignore it and assume it is from a known entity. I
believe it is as simple as that.

We have been experiencing difficulties delivering the digest to a number of
list subscribers with AOL accounts. This is because of new AOL restrictions
which are detailed below. At this time, the Majordomo software used by the
Vintage Airstream List does not break the mailouts down into groups of five or
less as required by AOL, so that messages are simply bouncing as
undeliverable.

As a temporary measure, all AOL subscribers on the digest list have been moved
over to the individual message list so that deliveries of messages can
continue, while I look into a solution. I will continue to keep you advised
as to progress. It does occur to me that AOL has created more problems than
solutions, because I am certain that actual spammers will be the first to move
to software that breaks their spam down into groups of five messages or less.

No, it is not this kind of problem. The AOL server itself is blocking all
mail coming from the server on which the Vintage list is residing.

I've used my stove for twenty years without running the vent fan, unless
I
want to evacuate the steam from whatever it is I'm cooking. When I get
into
the trailer, and it's really cold inside, first thing I do is light the
burners (and the catalytic heater) to warm the place up. I usually
leave a
window cracked a bit, for fresh air, and let a small fan blow at the
ceiling
to circulate the BTUs, but it hasn't killed me yet!

Ric,

The beauty of propane is that the fumes are not (supposed to be)
suffocating. (I personally find the odour objectionable, but I got a
fussy honker.) The fan is only needed to remove the odour of the
cabbage and broccoli casserole cooking for dinner. Of course you won't
be running the thing for days at a time, and the trailer is certainly
not so tight as to use up all the oxygen inside. Never go to sleep with
any open flame in the trailer, the primary one of course being the
stove. Cat heaters are not open flame, and thus are safe to sleep with
while lit, but they do consume the oxygen on which you should have first
dibs. (These to offend the fussy honker...) Hence the need for opening
a window a bit when they are burning. (Note that the open flame of the
heater and water heater are outside the trailer. There's a reason for
that.)

Bottom line, not necessary for routine cooking unless the smells/vapours
bother you.

Enjoy the maiden voyage,
Matt Worner

Bob,

You asked: "...don't you have a furnace in your rig?"

No furnace in my rig...it was removed by the previous owner, a long time
before I bought the trailer.

I don't use the stove burners for very long, just enough to knock down the
chill and melt the frost, so the little catalytic on the wall can maintain the
warmth in the room. Certainly not long enough to eat up all the oxygen in the
place, but after ten minutes or so, with a small pan of water on one of the
burners, and the coach is creaking, popping, expanding and coming to life,
just like I hope to do the following morning. So far, so good!

And you advised: "...you should listen to the stove manufacturer, they say NO
use of the stove to heat the trailer."

I'm sure they're right, especially for the sole heat source. I'm not
recommending anybody else do it the way I do, I'm just sharing my procedure,
right or wrong.

I also use a propane torch to heat the thermocouple on the water heater, so I
don't have to squat outside in the rain, holding down that stupid little
button until the pilot light does the job. Doubtless they'd have a few things
to say about that, too!

But thanks for your concern,

Have you seen the Hello Kitty Airstream Auction? I went to www.airstream.com and

Tom,

You and Gerry may agree that there is not a problem, but I have spoken with
AOL as well as with my hosting company, and they both agree that messages
are being blocked. I can also assure you that my mailbox is being filled
with messages that are bouncing back as not being delivered. I rather think
that those folks would not agree with you and Gerry.

SOME messages are getting through, but most were not up until late last
night. That seems to have improved with some changes that the hosting
company has made in the routing, but bounces are still happening. At least
one of them was from an e-mail sent to you.

The ZEP Industrial products are for use by
professionals, and most likely not priced for local
hardware store mark-ups. Zep sells these products only
directly to the professional users, with few
exceptions. The stuff they sell at home depot is not
the same quality, in my opinion.

Friends of mine are giving up their Airstream after many years as WBCCI
members. They have a 1973 Sovereign. I put an ad in the VAC classifieds last
night. If you are interesed in a trailer that has been well cared for and is
usable as is and is reasonably priced please take a look. I have no
financial interest in the trailer. Just thought that I could help find it a
new home.

You may git away with unvented gas in your trailer foreaver. But it only has
to fail once. The family I had to help remove from their house thought the same
thing but something failed and they were all quite dead.
The 1st thing I did when I bought my trailer was to get rid of the cat.
htr.and eventualy all gas appliances now all elect with heat strip in the Ac.

Tom,

There is a service bulletin on this...you must keep
the lower part of the heater housing, to connect to
the trailer's ducting.
to do this, the entire heater housing must be removed,
and the lower patrt's spot weld must be chiseled off.
The new housing then attaches to the lower ducted
part, and a cover must be fabricated to accomodate
everything.
Not a slam-dunk, but not very hard to do either. Some
modifications to the skin will be necessary,
unfortunately. I am not sure if the air intake/exhaust
plate will fit exactly.
i might have the bulletin stashed somewhere, let
meknow if you want me to fax it to you.

Tom,

The scraping noise you hear is probably the fan hitting dust bunnies and stuff
which has accumulated over the years. It could also be a bad motor mount which
would allow the fan to hit the shroud.

If I were you, I would take the trailer to the pros and have them check it,
before going to all the expense and trouble of retrofitting a new heater.

Chances are, oiling the fan motor, cleaning the blades and a good blowing out
will have the thing back in order. What you need the experts for, is to check
the heat exchanger, to be sure it's free of holes or rust. It may just need
to be serviced.
