Here is the latest from Ben Harper on his plans for the inherited Silver
Streak inventory.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my request for help / ideas on how to
move the inventory I have inherited.

I have received many, many suggestions of many different kinds from many
different sources. All of the suggestions have been helpful and I am sure will
all ultimately lead me to a final decision on how to best manage this process.

I would like to let everyone know that at this time, and to many of your
wishes, I will not be selling the inventory to a sole purchaser. Almost
everyone expressed concern about what would ultimately happen to the inventory
and what the final cost might be. So I decide that I will come up with a means
to sell the invntory at a individual level with quantity limits on each type
of item per purchaser. I am not sure exactly how I will set this up, but plan
on having it sorted out with in the next 10 - 14 days.

At which time I will notify Tom Patterson (email / message board) of the
process and the Web Address for inventory viewing and purchasing.

Some items are going to be held in reserve for Professional Restoration
Groups, like Vintage Vacations, so that they can continue the ground up
restorations with as much N.O.S. (New Old Stock) pieces. Items such as the
pre-cut aluminum section panels, frame rails and other like items will be
sorted out on a 50 / 50 basis. 50% for individual purchase, the other 50% for
high quantity purchase.

I hope that everyone will find this portion of the process fair for all.

Thanks
Ben Harper

Has anyone one actually seen or been able to verify this treasure trove of
vintage Silver Streak trailers and parts. It just almost seems unbelievable.

I don't think so. He is apparently working to set up a website to display
the items. I also don't think that he has offered to sell anything yet,
although many, including major players in California such as Vintage
Vacations, where the items are apparently located, are inquiring about the
items. I think we will just have to wait for more information.

So far, it sounds real.

I must have been out to lunch, but what production years of Silver Streak
parts does Ben have? And he has some Siver Streak trailers too? What years are
they?
Very Interesting and very generous of him to not sell the lot to dealers!

I have a cool-looking gas-fired (only, no electric) Norcold that I took out
of my Bubble. I don't think it was original because the '56 Bubbles came
with ice chests, not 'fridges. It was probably installed by a PO and the
style seems to be early '70s. It looks good and has a wonderful turquois
door. I've never used it and don't know if it works. But it's FREE to
anyone who'll come to Sacramento to get it or pay for packing and shipping.

While were at it Does anyone have or know of where I could get a 1950's up
50 to 57" tall gas refrig.? My '58 Overlander has the origanal frigidare with
the lavish chrome trim and chrome pull down handle and it works like a top but
it is electric and I like to boondock without hookups. Maybe we could make a
partial trade.

anybody have a source for parts for old Magic Chef ovens?
Thanks in advance,

Hi All,
I'm ready to lay down new plywood underflooring my Safari and was going
to use regular fiberglass insulation as they did in the factor but
wondered-- is there something available at my local Home Center that
will work better? Cut down 4x8 sheets of foam insulation maybe? And
should it be attached to the underside of the floor, secured between
the frame rails or just laid on top of the bellypan?

ALSO, the factory laid the insulation between the frame rails and the
plywood. Is there a reason I need to have something separating the
plywood from steel or was it just easier/faster for them to assemble it
this way?

I'm replacing the rotten plywood one sheet at a time from the top while
leaving the bellypan in place. So far, it's working quite well. I'll
post pics if anyone's interested.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I have the complete Magic Chef 4 burner range and oven from my 76 A/S. It
all works. I wish someone that needed it was in the Houston TX area. I would
love to pass it on to someone. Its just to heavy to ship.

Hi Steve:
I'd love to see the pictures. I did a frame-on floor replacement and
just used the foam rolls that came with the manufactured flooring - not
Pergo, but similiar kind of stuff - from Belgium I think. So far so
good. And I also put the plywood directly atop the frame. The bellypan
was a mess and it got replaced after all of the above plus holding
tanks were added. Fun, huh?

It's the funniest thing, but I went to www.marksrv.com and they have an
alphabetical listing without an "M" so all us Magic Chef people are out of
luck :)

Try your local RV dealers parts department. I was able to get parts for
mine with no problem. It took a couple of weeks for them to come in, but
most parts are available.

Subject: [VAL] battery follow up

All-

Thought I'd post a response I got to my "best battery technology"
question on the Yahoo list- with the author's permission of course. I'm
off to search for AGM batteries..

Chris Koehn

Hi Chris,
The AGM technology battery is the best on the market today. It is a
lead /
acid battery, but the acid is impregnated into a fiberglass mat that is
sandwiched in between strips of lead, then the sandwich is rolled into a
"jelly roll" shaped cell. This type of cell can be sealed for vent free
operation, and has very low internal resistance. That gives you very
long
storage life without going flat on its own - which any battery will do.
The
AGM technology is ideal for any RV type of setup of intermittent use and
storage, sense they can be run totally flat, then recharged hundreds of
times without killing them.
There are several brands on the market today that use the AGM
technology. I
have "Lifeline" brand purchased at "Batteries Plus" ( check them out at
WWW.lifelinebatteries.com ) I have used several other brands in my
other
toys. You can find all kinds of info by just plugging "AGM Batteries"
into
your Google search box. I just tried it and came up with 93,700 sites to
look at about them.
I have two Lifeline batteries in my boat that takes the worst
punishment,
because I am always off in the Airstream, while it sets on the storage
rack
for months at a time. I have cranked it after it was setting for as
much as
7 months at a time. I told my neighbor about them, and he put one in his
boat. It set for one year and still cranked the boat with no problem. He
came by the house and told me he had thought I was stretching the
capabilities of the batteries, but he was now a firm believer. They are
still batteries, and you can run them down, and you can kill them
through
enough misuse, but they are tougher than the regular old wet or jelly
cell
batteries. They are also good for the person that needs to put their
battery
inside the trailer, because they are completely sealed. They can be
mounted
upside down or on their side without spilling out any acid, and give
off no
fumes.
Now the down side - they cost about 2 or 3 time as much as the same
sized
wet cell batteries. I am banking on the hope that I can get 2 or 3
times the
life out of mine with no hassle while getting it. I don't own stock in
any
of the battery companies, but often feel like I should after the amount
of
money I spend for batteries.
