  Chaplain Kent,

I also have a 82, 280 Turbo Diesel Airstream. I have a pretty high value on
mine since the entire interior has been updated with many $$$. I currently
insure mine for $19,000. and will increase this now that the interior is
finished. I do not have a problem with the insurance company.

I hope you win your argument, will help if I can offer any information. No
excuse for a mechanic to use the wrong filter. Any 82, 280 TD is worth more
than $15,000 in decent condition. I would change the engine and
transmission to a Cummings (older Dodge truck), much better performance.

Regards,

Bud

I don't think the hubcap retainers (center of the wheel) are the same size, at least they
weren't on mine. I found affordable moons I plan to buy from a place online called ehubcaps,
here is the link....

hope this helps....

 Hi All,

I'm still alive. "Pearl" and I are holed up at my Mom's awaiting the end of school when
we can take off for the International and home in Colorado!

I'm putting the solar panels to the test as I don't have electricity for Pearl. So far so
good. I sweep the snow off the panels to keep them clear to the sun. Is it possible to
overcharge the batteries while using solar?

Next question. I'm going to hate to do it but I'll have to buy a cap for my new Silverado
to protect all my stuff when I leave NY. I asked Hunter's group for suggestions and thought
the vintage group might have some thoughts on which kind, what options, brand, etc. I bought
the 2500 HD Diesel with a crew cab and short bed. It has beautiful chrome bed rails on it
that will have to come off to put a cap on which is why I'm sad.

I'll also have to get a new brake controller and adjust my Reese hitch bar for the height
difference. I sure am having fun driving around Long Island with a diesel truck! Ha! Can't
even drive on the parkways cause NY insists on commerical plates with a pick-up! Should be a
great tow vehicle, it's the same length as Pearl!!

Hi Patti:

Good to hear from you. Sorry I didn't reply to your earlier
stitches E-mail but have been distracted with client's legal problems.
Sounds like all will work out on your shoulder.

If you have a solar controller for the solar panel, the batteries
should not overcharge. If you don't have a solar charge controller but
have only one solar panel, you are probably OK too, as one panel would
be hard pressed to overcharge a battery.

Most people get a pickup bed cap with a lift gate, which means you
have to crawl forward into the bed to retrieve things up front. I don't
know if they make them for short bed pickups, but I like the commercial
toppers with side hinged rear doors and lift-up top-hinged window panels
along the sides like these Gemtops:

http://www.gemtopmfg.com/

They are functional and purposeful, a practical commercial design.

The State of Colorado does not discriminate against pick up trucks,
so your Silverado will be welcomed and free to roam out here.

Overcast and in the 30's out here, just like I remember N.Y.!

Hi Patti,
I put a ARE on my Ram 2500 back in '98 and love it! We opted for the rear
opening hatch that has a small glass door in the middle of the opening
hatch. This gives us access to the bed without having the tailgate in the
way. We can use the small door or open the whole hatch and have access to
the entire bed width. The paint match was great and we've not had a problem
with it since new. NFI, just a satisfied customer.
Aren't diesels great??!! Gotta love 'em - the best tow vehicle we've ever
had!
Pete

Patti:
I've had 4 trucks and 4 SnugTop camper shells. They have held up very
well. Mine have all had a type of fabric top to which Velcro will stick
and you can hang lots of stuff (fly rods) that way. I've always gotten
the type that "mate" to the truck and so there's not an additional
window - but I have a rear slider window and can actually crawl from
the truck into the cab via the rear window. You'll like it once you
cover up - you will lose some rear visibility so you might want to look
into putting a Fresnel lens on the rear window of the shell. Most of
the caps have tinted glass on all the windows including the rear and
this can be a real pain at night when backing up - I put in some very
bright halogen back-up lights that are on their own switch.
