If you really love to read about a great adventure *as it's happening!* then
please take a moment to see what Ellen is up to. You can drop her a line of
encouragement if you choose to do so, she is one fantastic lady and a role
model for all.

I'll weigh in as the Subscription Director.

The VAC is part of the WBCCI, that's why you have to be a
member of the big one to belong to the little one. To be
honest, for many of us, the biggest benefit of belonging to
the WBCCI is that when we hold our vintage rallies their
insurance covers us. Getting this insurance just for a club
our size would be prohibitive. So if you are interested in
coming to a rally with the club ( which are great fun and
very informal and informative ) then you would need to join
the whole thing. The exception to this is a "buddy rally",
which is designed to give you a taste of what fun a vintage
rally ( or other kind ) is without having to join the whole
thing.

As a subscriber, you just get the newsletter, not membership
priviledges.

Exactly right this is off topic. Marking a message as off topic is NOT an
way to post it to this list. If it is off topic, then it does not and never
did belong on the list.

If you don't any anyone else to send mail to, then go and find someone, but
don't post any more of these off topic messages to this list!

Tom,

Yes, elephant ears are the mark of the fix for another, older unrelated
frame droop problem. From the late 60's into the early 70's Airstream
had a problem with the floor rail to frame anchor in the rear of
coaches. The washer they used to spread out the load was to small. It
would deteriorate and then collapse allowing the body to lift up from
the frame. This problem was not restricted to longer coaches and
effected both the older and the newer body style. (pre and post 1969).
Elephant ears do not appear on all coaches with the problem. Those
coaches with rear compartment doors can be repaired from the inside of
the compartment.

The frame droop problem fixed by the frame plates was a true bending of
the frame due to overloading from the added water storage capacity
brought on with the addition of gray water tanks. This problem most
commonly occurred in longer coaches and was indicated by a ripple or
wave radiating out at a 45 degree angle from the upper corners of the
wheel wells.

For what? Wouldn't an individual's insurance do the same thing?
Liability especially if one had an umbrella policy? This whole
insurance business and litigation fear is paralyzing our society. I
teach women to shoot handguns for self-defense and so far, going
"naked" - no insurance, but cover all the bases ...has worked well. I
think more M.D.'s could do the same. If an individual shows best
diligence or due diligence, they'd be ok. I just got done attending an
8-day malpractice trial of a local M.D. - the jury took one hour to
return a not guilty verdict. Hopefully the pendulum is swinging back
toward individual responsibility. I know this will probably spark a
firestorm of horror stories but if they're not first hand experience or
documented, don't. I think maybe that's at the core of my stubbornness
about joining WBCCI.

Subject: [VAL] Unit Broken Into

     VAC Members,

Our 1969 International, Overlander was broken into and vandalized Friday
night. They managed to get into the unit by prying open the area at the lock.
This will require either a complete new door skin or a temporary repair with a
band riveted to the door from side to side.
Our most urgent need is for the window swing out on the curb side. They
separated the window swing out from the frame. They were unable to bust out
the Plexiglas. After they pried the window open they reached through and opened
the door from the inside, yes, the door lock didn't open for them for all
their prying! I may be able to affect a repair of the window frame (swing out
portion), I am just not sure at this time. I will be pulling the unit to my
home. Where I hope to determine exactly what I can do to either repair or will
need to replace the window frame.

If measurements are needed, I should have them later this week. The
unit is covered with a tarp, sorry no choice. Started raining last night. I
also have digital photos to better identify what is needed.

                            hugheym@xxxxxxxxxx.com
Please answer off line if you know where I may find a replacement
window. We are planning on attending the International in Springfield.

Sorry to hear about that. My 76 was broken into at what I though was a very
secure storage area. Other than the damage and the mess, what did they take.
When mine was broken into all they took was the radio. I have since moved my
A/S to a garage type storage.

You might try Oasis RV in Tucson, they do a lot of work on Vintage trailers.

Good Luck.

Can anyone tell me if they have ever had one of their '66 through '68
Corning windows shatter? If so, did it break into small pebble size
pieces or into long sharp shards of glass?
