Subject: [VAL] Furnace fixed!

Ok , this is my last post on this , I promise..LOL

I finally got the furnace pulled out.. (there's always on screw holding
everything, as you yank and pull thinking its just 30years of ageing in
place)

I found Mud dobbers all inside the furnace combustion fan, and inside the
heat exchanger... that fine Carolina red clay got into the motor shaft and
make it squeel like a fan belt slipping...

Got it all cleaned out, sprayed some CRC on the shaft.. cleaned some more..
put it all back together.. and it runs soooooooooooooooooooooooo smooth...
whisper quite... Now were talking...lol

24 degrees outside... and 85 degrees inside... got to love it!

Way to go, Brian. Did you have the heat exchanger checked out while the
furnace is out? I don't know if there is a good reliable layman's
technique for finding leaks; maybe putting a bright light inside, with
the furnace in a darkened room, or some such?? Odds are, with a furnace
that old...they all will eventually fail, and the question is, how do
you discover that it's failed? Hence the recent thread on CO
detectors--but that's not the effective early warning system you want.

Even though I generally am comfortable and capable working on stuff like
furnaces, I tend to gravitate to paying someone who does it all the
time, just to be on the safe side. Although last summer, when I pulled
out my furnace when rebuilding the galley, I took the furnace in to a
local "reputable" furnace shop to give it a good cleaning and PM; and
upon picking it up and paying the $30 fee, discovered two large wasp
nests still inside the air intake! So much for trusting the experts--at
least "those" experts.

Well the blower assembly looks Brand new, and the heat exhchanger shows VERY
little wear... I am totally shocked at how good a shape all the things are
on this 30 year old unit. It's like it was in storage all that time...

I do believe the orginal owners had it under shelter for 23 of those 30
years.

I got lucky... I found a good one.. mud dobbers and wasp are not considered
a wear item..lol IF the person that replaced the blower motor assembly had
of put the outside screen back in.. i wouldn't have had any problems.

miles east of Sarasota.

Subject: [VAL] Window question

Hi gang,

From time to time I receive questions from members who don't have internet
access. I just got one that I wanted to pass on to ya'all. Please respond
on-list. I will print and mail any answers.

The trailer is a 1969 Overlander located in GA. Here is the question:

Maybe you can help me: Someone broke the oval fixed window that is right by
my door handle and under a push out window. My window measures 9 & 7/8 X 20
& 5/8 (or 9/16). I have talked to people in Montevallo, AL and Corona CA.
Both thought they had a window but it turned out their windows were too
small. I am now trying to order a tempered glass - take out the frame I have
and replace the glass in the original frame. Since I haven't found a window
assembly I hope this will work. Do you have some suggestions?
