    It's just a pretty quiet day I guess.

    Light rain off and on predicted here for the next two days.   Could that
have anything to do with the quiet?  They say that California leads the

Well, California seemed to be behind today. When I got up I couldn't 
access my ISP's e-mail server to send or receive mail, nor their web page. 
When I called the service number the greeting was that a fiber optic 
cable had been cut in Southern California breaking their network 
connections. The seem to subcontract connections across the country so I 
could get on-line, I just couldn't do e-mail.

I went to the VAL listoffice page and it didn't complain about me 
subscribing again, but I backed off confirming the new subscription and 
sent my "test" message instead. Eventually it came through showing that I 
hadn't been unsubscribed from the VAL just because my ISP was incognito 
for half a day.

While digging through my dad's papers Sunday I found a copy of "the 
Vintage Advantage" dating from November 1996. It has some historical 
articles plus one on brakes and brake controllers and one on floor repairs. 
If there's interest, I might scan the most interesting parts and send them or 
post them on my web page.
