Subject: [VAL] Airstream One info
Just opened the Autoweek that came in today's mail, and Dutch
Mandel's column reports on the RVIA convention in Louisville. He
writes: "... this $12 billion industry grew 13.5 percent last year,
and why trend watchers say it will continue. Which suits Rickard
"Dicky" Riegel, president and CEO of Airstream, just fine. Riegel, a
30-something poster boy is fit and trim, stands six foot seven
inches, and his enthusiasm about Airstream--and sports and collector
cars--is infectious. The hip aluminum cocoon we've come to love is
hipper with the Airstream One concept. As a joint venture with Sony,
it has electronic measures galore: an integrated VAIO laptop, remote
Internet-accessible security cameras, high-speed cellular Internet
connection, oversized TVs, PlayStation, low-profile TV antennas,
flexible solar panels and even smart window technology where with a
switch its windows darken. Make Dicky an offer on this one-off model
and it could by yours, but be forewarned: Airstream gets twice the
price per foot for its trailers than do its competitors, and there's
no telling what this high-tech toy room would fetch."
So, is this really a trailer, or a motorhome? Wonder if I can
retrofit our '72 Overlander. . .

I'm drooling, do you suppose it will be at the Tampa RV show ?
If so, full report with pix coming up.
Interesting about the flexible solar panels, I've been
wanting those, but been told by various technical types that
they are not proven technology yet.
Can't wait, it will certainly be at International.

It's flaxible mat of thin strips of composite or wood that
runs in a track and rolls up out of the way. An old
fashioned roll top desk has a tambour.
It is used for cupboard doors on 70's trailers.

Daisy,
The flexible solar panels have been around for awhile. They generate less
power per surface area compared to classic rigid panels, their life
expectancy is lower and they cost less. Now that does not mean that they
are unproven, but rather that they just have different characteristics. You
can overcome the efficiency issue if you can install more panels, but
understand that on the A/S roof you most likely will have to use the rounded
sides of the roof to accomplish this and then you are faced with the fact
that the sun will only hit a portion of the panels at any particular time.
Since you have installed so much LED lighting, the flexible panels might be
a good choice for your situation as you have much lower amp-hour
requirements than a rig using incandescent lighting and therefore the output
of the panels may well be in line with your typical daily battery drain.

Hi Ann,
I had EXACT same problem here in NY as you have now. I took the bill of sale to
my attorney who notorized it for me and then I drove back to the DMV and completed
the registration! If you know your attorney well he/she will believe that your
bill of sale is legit.

Why do the shower pans have to stay fiberglass? Aluminum is much easier to work
with. My shower is different then all of you will tubs because it is the floor of
the bathroom. The plant put an aluminum pan in with sides that are caulked. Could
that be done in a tub?

Hey Rob!
You have no idea how excited I am to be moving to Colorado where I WILL have friends
who can help me problem solve! I've had some blue moments over leaving a town where
I'm the 4th generation of my family and leaving the ocean but I keep reminding myself
that my quality of life will be so much better in an area where aluminum rules!!!

One great resource in Colorado is the bone yard in Denver .....
Cherokee RV (near I-70 & I-25) on 5050 Humboldt, Denver, CO (303.295.3433)
They have a lot of RV parts etc. and if nothing else, are well worth touring.
I did
enjoy seeing what all they had on my one exploration trip there.

Daisy,
I agree with you- none of the elements of the work I did to our shower
would be wise to attempt when you're living in the trailer. Ours was
out of commission for a couple of weeks during this process.
That said, we are happy with the results, the shower functions as we'd
hoped, and gravity has become our friend..

Reminds me of a story I read years ago in an antique car restoration book.
Seems a fellow had bought an old car from England, and when he went to
register it in NY, the title wasn't notarized. It had the English
equlivilant to a notary stamp on it, but it didn't say "notary public" so
they wouldn't accept it. No amount of explaining would suffice. So he
found a notary in NY that would "notarize" the English signature and took it
back the next day. The lady at DMV was just as happy as a dead pig in the
sunshine with that. Never did occur to her to wonder how a notary in NY
could notarize a signature in England, it just had to have the magic words
on it.
Probably one of the reasons that Georgia doesn't require a notary on vehicle
titles any more. They're just about worthless. In fact, Georgia doesn't
even require titles on vehicles older than 1986 or trailers that weigh less
than 2,000 pounds.

I am a Notary in Iowa and we WILL NO Notarize anything unless We See
the person sign it also we must check to make sure the signer is Who he
says he is.
That is why you have a Notary.
