Hello all-

I purchased an Airstream a couple years ago and would like to know about the owners if anyone knows them.

I can see that they attended a rally or two from stickers in the interior.

The owners names were Mike and Judy Logan from Helena MT. If anyone knows anything about
them or my Airstream i sure would like to hear form you.

    All,

As many of you already know, I just bought a 1969 Caravel and finally
got it into place in the back of the property this morning. I went to plug
it in to my house current and can't fine the male plug or electrical box on
the outside of the trailer. My Owners Manual has a rough illustration
showing it coming out of the left rear corner but all I can see there is a
garden hose hookup and the T-handle for dumping the head holding tank.

There is a weather proof female outlet just aft of the main door but
that's just that, a female outlet. I presume that's a tap for operating
110v appliances adjacent to the outside of the trailer.

Can anyone give me a hint as to where to look for the 110v hookup?

    Thanks,

    Glyn

Glyn,

I think you have the corner bath in the rear/rt side. The bed is to the
left.
The univolt is normally under that bed, left back corner. The plug/cord is
in the back bumper. But, who knows! When things are 35 years old,
changes are sure to be made.

Find your fuse panel, Look for the heavy black cord, Follow it
to the cord storage location. It should be along with the
sewer drain hose in your back bumper area.

In my '68 Caravel, the power inlet (as well as water inlet) are inside
the left storage compartment. There's a fitting at the bottom just like
a drain fitting with a cap to pass the hose and power cord. The power
cord is wired to the main panel at the rear of that compartment and is
run out the bottom through that drain fitting. 120 volts 30 amp plug on
a fairly substantial cord nearly an inch in diameter.

    Dean, Gerald, Paul and Michelle,

Thanks for all the willing help. I feel like such a bonehead. There
was the massive cord (you weren't kidding Gerald) resting in the back bumper
alongside the sewer hose. It's now plugged in and the refrigerator is
cooling down as I write this.

One by one, I'm slowly getting to know all systems aboard and am
currently installing a nice Sony car radio in the forward overhead locker.
Even finding 12v for it was a large chore as the ground wiring was iffy and
not connected to anything, something I only found out after gently tugging
and having it come free in my hands. The real ground was taped to it and
the whole time I was trying to get my multimeter to read a floating piece of
12" wire.

All is now well and I just finished a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
so I'm raring to go. If you hear lovely music emanating from afar in the
next half hour, that'll my radio installation.

    Once again, thanks all,

    Glyn

Got a question for those familiar with swing bar limitations. When my
Hensley crashed this summer I replaced it on my 03 Safari with a Reese
system. The bars are rated at 1,200 lb. class V. (also replaced the
square receiver on the back of the Suburban with a class V) It occured
to me that I could use the same bars and hitch with my 54 Flying Cloud
by just adding the clamps to the A frame. (I was only using a sway
controller towing the FC) BUT are the new bars too heavy for the FC?
The Safari weighs in at 6,500 lbs. the FC only 2,600. It seemed like a
cool idea to have one system with a few extra parts that could be used
for both trailers. Same idea, I could add the ball to the side of the
Reese hitch, and the ball with plate to the Safari A frame and use the
sway controller with both trailers also. Have I lost you all?

I believe that the bars are too heavy duty for your FC, and perhaps your
Safari as well. My Overlander only uses 500# bars! You may wish to check
with Reese and or Airstream to see if you would be doing damage to either
trailer. However I believe that you did the right thing with the heavy duty
receiver on your Suburban!

The bars are probably way too stiff for the FC. The bars are available
separately.

Greetings Patti!

I concur with Scott. I believe that you are likely to find that the
1,200 pound weight distribution bars are too heavy for both your Safari
and Flying Cloud. With your C/K 2500 Suburban, you have the firm
suspension that I have with my K2500 Suburban, and I know that I have
discovered that 500 pound bars are ideal for my '78 Argosy Minuet (3,100
pounds gross weight with 550 pound hitch weight); and I use 700 pound
bars with my '64 Overlander (6,000 pounds gross weight with 750 pounds
hitch weight). Neither of my trailers cause the Suburban to squat much
more than 1.5 inches before the weight distribution bars are attached.
The one thing that I might mention is that I utilize the Reese Dual Cam
sway control with both trailers and is a big part of my reason for
paying such close attention matching hitch weight to spring bars as it
just seems like the Dual Cam system works better with the closely
matched bars.

Hi Gang,

This is our week at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campground adjacent to
the St. Lucie Locks in Stuart, Florida. The access road to it is two roads
west of the intersection of I-95 and US 76.

On the same road just before the COE campground is Martin County Phipps RV
Park (drive-up only, never a "no vacancy" sign, dump station, central water
spigots, showers, pay telephone, $10 a night, boondocking only).

The price went up this year from $6 last year. Apparently, some RVers were
abusing the 30 day rule and the City Council did something about it. The rub
is there are Coast to Coast RV Resorts nearby with full hookups for $10 a
night.

As an aside, we were again offered a campground host job at the COE (5 hours
a day for 5 days a week). We declined. Next week, we'll be in New Orleans
for the holidays.

Later,

Terry
