Brad,

If you haven't noticed the archives, that might be an easy way to climb the
learning curve before you actually buy an Airstream. There are hundreds of
articles in the archives describing what you can do while actually standing
inside every Airstream you consider. Jot down each of them.

Make up a chart, put it on your clipboard, collect data from at least 12
Airstream possibilities, then compare and contrast. It won't take long
before your analytical skills are even sharper than before you started. The
name of the game is to know exactly (in detail) what you're buying before
you spend your money.

To get ideas, go to Google.Com and type in the following key words:

tompatterson.com buy airstream

Use different key words after "tompatterson.com" to obtain different topics
of interest. To refine your search, add another key word or use different
key words. Play with it - be creative - make mistakes and try again.

You'll find exactly what you want (eventually). Patience and persistence are
gifts and now is the time to use them.

Terry

Hi, I'm Stephanie, in Battle Ground, WA. This spring my husband and I bought
a 1968 Caravel from some members of the OR Unit. After trying out the WBCCI
at a few rallys this summer and meeting lots of great folks, we finally
decided to join and join the VAC as well. I hope we can find lots of info
here to help us maintain our trailer. The previous owners took very good
care of it, and gave it to us in excellent condition. We've really enjoyed
using it every chance we had this past summer. We have a webpage with
pictures of it at

http://www.stephanies-mustang.com/caravel/index.htm

I'm also hoping to find a bigger Airstream to restore and do a custom
interior in. I've been looking at shells locally, but so far haven't found
anything worth towing home. So I'll be watching the restoration posts with
interest, as I hope to be doing some of that myself someday. I've restored
two 68 Mustangs (Hi Brad, fellow Mustanger) and finshed a project 68 vette.
1968 vehicles and trailers seem to follow me home - come to think of it, my
husband's a 1968 model as well, I'm a 1969. Anyway, I think a trailer
project will be fun for a change. Best of all, I'll still have my Caravel to
enjoy while I tinker with the other one.

Elisa, I have experienced a similar problem. The gray water valve was stuck
open. Some progress has been made by repeatedly putting septic tank enzyme
powder in the holding tanks, after each dump and with some water when the
trailer is not in use, for an extended soak (enough water to immerse the
blade valve). The enzyme substance can be purchased at Walmart or most
large grocery stores for 4 or 5 bucks and will do for a number of
applications. The cheaper brands seems to work as well as the expensive
ones for this purpose. I have not achieved 100% sucess, but both valves now
close and open and the amount of leakage is decreasing and sometimes there
is no leakage. I do envy you having the outlet at the rear bumper and I
plan to modify mine to be able to attach the sewer hose at the rear bumper.
My dump outlet and valve handles are under the trailer on the street side
and not convenient to get to for opening and closing. The ensymes may not
solve the problem, but I recommend you give it a try. Ned Digh

How about spraying some WD-40 on the thing to lube it. GAS

Great trailer Stephanie. Nice work in restoring the finish, etc. There is
a post 69 model for sale at a dealer in our town, if it would be of interest
to you feel free to email me for details off list.
