Hi everyone:

I have removed the interior skin of my 1955 Bubble, and the shell is off!
There are some areas of flaky white corrosion on the inside surface of the
exterior skin. Do I need to do something about this apart from sealing all
leaks? If so, what would be the best thing to do?

thanks,
Deborah

A spline is a narrow strip in this case 1/4 in X 1in strip od plywood that is
fitted into a 1/4 in slot cut into each edge of ajoning sheets of plywood
floor hopefully you have axcess to a router and a sloot cutter bit to cut the
groves. the spline can eather be glued in place or left to float(un glued) It
fills the crack and keeps both sheets of plywood eaven with each other.
Hope this answeres your question.

There is a big price difference between Thetford valves and Valterra valves.
You heard the old adage "you get what you pay for".
I replaced my dump valves last year and went back with the Thetford.
Figured if the ones that were on the trailer lasted 25-30 years,
then I'd go back with the same brand and not have to replace them in a few
years.
When I was working at Suncoast RV we used to have people come in all the time
to have their Valterra valves replaced.

Hi,

I have two Brochures left over from refurbishing two 31 Ft. Landyaughts.
One is a 1973 "The Airstream Story", 36 Pages
The other is a 1978 "Airstream's Lightweight Aerodynamic Concept", 31 pages.

I would like to know if these are in the archives.

Also, have a MAGIC CHEF, Cae and Use of your Recreational Vehicle range,
dtd. 9/80 and a Dometic Refrigerators for LP-Gas and Electric Operation,
dtd. 02

Bud:

The Vintage Airstream Club (VAC) Archives already has a
copy of the the 1973 edition of "The Airstream Story" so
does not need another copy. But we do not have a copy of
the 1978 "Airstream's Lightweight Aerodynamic Concept", 31
pages, and would certainly appreciate the donation of the
original or an excellent color photocopy of it. We do not
have any 1980's or later appliance manuals either, so could
use the Magic Chef and Dometic pamphlets too. You can mail
them to me at:

Yes - I did use the original Thetford valves......

That must be the difference in price........they were really easy to
replace - that was once Charle Burke let me take my sawsall to the original
plumbing - there probably is a way to remove the valves without cutting
them out - but I couldn't figure it out - like the old saying goes - if it
doesn't go easy - get a bigger hammer ..... or .... aa ...... saw. hee hee

Jim:
Thanks for info. But if the wood has to be fitted up under the
channel at the bottom of the skin, and then fitted to each other, where
does one get the space to fit them together - spline to slot? It seems
to me the pieces have to butt tightly into each other and then each
piece has to be elevator bolted to the frame. No?

p.s. This very question is on my mind as I'm about to that point in my
work.

Subject: RE: [VAL] Opinion on Vacuum

Lexxy,

When I was in college I sold about thirty Electrolux vacuums door-to-door
over a four month period. They are the "Airstream of Vacuums". Before I
quit selling them, I bought one for myself. I still have it, and keep it in
my 1963 Ambassador. It was a 1960's model G, and was refurbished by the
factory when I bought it from the company, back in 1976. Heck, it even
looks like an A/S! With your wood floors, all you need is the standard
floor/rug tool to vacuum drapes, carpets, bedding, etc. Plus, the flexible
hose connects to either the suction end or the exhaust end. The filter bags
are three layers, and trap miniscule particles.

To sell them I would place a hard plastic tube, with openings on both ends,
onto the business end of the hose. Then I would toss a 1-7/8 inch steel
ball to the prospect and ask him/her, How many of these steel balls do you
think this sucker will suspend when I turn this hose to the floor? I would
load four or five steel balls into the tube, throw on the switch and it
never dropped one. Seasoned reps used to have an attachment that they would
place over the suction end and stick them to the ceiling!

The cool thing is, if you can't find one used at the local vacuum shop, just
look in the yellow pages, and the area rep (if he has trade-ins) will
deliver one to your door! The oldest one I recall seeing was a late 1940's
model with stainless steel sleigh supports (no wheels). Have fun!

Hello All,
Does anyone have a resource for 2 inch insulation for the Airstream
walls? I have looked at the typical hardware stores but have not found
that size.
Thanks
