I've heard of people putting long screws in there
(into the floor) to anchor the rigid foam.

does anyone know how much flex there is in an old
airstream chassis? I imagine there is *some* right?

(just curious, not expecting anyone to know, but
hoping to be pleasantly surprised.)

You hold the foambaord in place with long #6 or #8 screws. Make sure
that you don't overdrive them, otherwise the points will come up through
he 5/8th" plywood sub-floor into your linoleum or flooring. You could
use adhesive, but then it isn't removable, and you have to find a way to
support the foamboard while the adhesive dries anyway.
Best of luck,
RJ

Greetings Clay!

I have been trying to find those exact latches myself. I was finally able
to locate the smaller roof locker latches through an E-Bay auction; but the
larger latches used on the wardrobes, pantry cabinet and under-sink cabinets
have proven elusive. As a "temporary" solution, I have been using two
heavy-duty magnet cabinet closures on the under sink cabinets and four of
the heavy-duty magnet cabinet closures on the wardrobe and pantry cabinet.
The magnetic closures may not be correct, but they do the job and can't be
seen from the front of the cabinet doors - - I found them at Lowes.

Good luck with your search!

Show me a picture of the originals. Off list, of course. There are a few
dozen in McMaster-Carr's printed catalog that seem to come close to your
descriptions. From small to rather large. Often intended for industrial
equipment enclosures, especially radio and electrical cabinets. These
have a locking plate on a threaded shaft that when turned clockwise the
locking plate turns to align with the strike plate and then they can be
tightened by continuing to turn the screw. Unlocking, as soon as the
screw released pressure on the locking plate the locking plate turns to
clear the strike plate. Or another option is a cam lock with knob
instead of key mechanism. They are also close to the McMaster Carr
numbers I listed yesterday.

Jere ,
So you primed over the old zolotone ? I was going to just sand it with
sonme 220 and scotchbrite and spray right over the old . Another 15 $ . I
got mine at autobody supply ,they have primer too . I assumed the primer
was for bare metal .How much paint was used for a globetrotter ? I got a
gallon , said 150 sq.ft per quart , I figured 3 qts to do .

Yes , the wood work is out , the whole inside was out to be reinsulated and
rewired . The end caps arent to bad to get out if you wanted to repair with some
fiberglass cloth on the back side .They are harder to get back in with the
insulation and all , takes a helper or two .You might be able to fair it in if
you put it on face side (cloth reinforcement) if you used bondo to fill it and
fair it in . I would use a Napa ( martinsenior ) product called fiberstrand it s
got some short fiber in it and is stronger than regular plastic filler .

Greetings RJ!

When I checked with Christy in the parts department on Saturday, most of the
Vintage parts that they had uncovered related to windows and some exterior
trim. I was able to obtain three 1970's wheelcovers that matched those that
have been on my coach since the split-rims were replaced more than 20 years
ago from their Vintage parts finds earlier in the Summer. When I asked
about small parts, Christy was still compiling information about what they
had. I do know that they haven't uncovered any of the Bargman 99 tail
lights as I have asked that question at every opportunity. They have
searched for the cabinet latches for my coach on more than one ocassion and
didn't find any; but that doesn't mean that they won't appear as things are
readied for the move - - the wheelcovers were an unexpected find.

What kind of lock can I get for the hitch? I got one at Lowes but I
couldn't get it to work die to the lever thing being too high and
scratched it up and can't return it. I looked at all sorts of pictures
on the net on rv sites but I can't figure out how they work. I have a
small utility trailer with a key lock but it doesn't work on the A/S due
to the lip around the ball holder part of the hitch.

I'm thinkin I got too much in this thing now not to lock it when I go
out of town!!! Thought about chaining it to the brick fence but they
could just pull down the brick wall and I'd have to rebuild that. I do
try and park the other car in front of it...or I willl now I have

Chris, many thanks for your reply. I refinished all the wood and installed
new floor vinyl as a means of getting the new feeling back last May but
avoided tackling the end in the bathroom. We then took the trailer on a
7500 mile trip where she performed superbly. Cheers, GAS

Master makes hitch locks - newest I've seen is a pin with a head on one end
and then the lock slides onto the pin which locks down the lift mechanism on
the trailer's hitch.

Master also makes a lock that you insert into the ball coupler on the
trailer which expands I believe when the key is turned making it very
difficult to remove from the coupler.

When I've left mine out I've locked up the safety chains with a separate
padlock, locked down the coupler lift mechanism, etc.

Wal*Mart should have all the above items - they did last night at Super
Wally World near me after midnight.

You could always remove the tires and wheels so anyone would need to raise
the trailer and insert a big dolly to tow it away! That would look pretty
obvious then that it was stolen. Or, would that be today's low-rider RV? ;)
