Looks great! Demime was always the preferred application, but was more
difficult to set up right. Congrats!

I was hoping to have the VAL turn on at the same time as Toby got his
server
going, that way he could set up the pages with the new pointers from the
beginning, plus he could point the old addresses to your new majordomo
addresses during the overlap period to the new list. i.e., anything
addressed to vaclist@xxxxxxxxxx.net gets virtuser'd over to
valist@xxxxxxxxxx.com, the same with majordomo address.

Toby, how close are you?

We will be living in the morning for a fall camping trip in the Caravel
up
into the Sierras, so wont' be back until Wednesday night anyway.

Subject: [VAL] Welcome to the Vintage Airstream E-Mail List

I would like to welcome all of the subscribers to the former Vintage
Airstream
Club E-Mail list to this, the successor list, to be known as the Vintage
Airstream List (VAL). As you will note, the expected change-over has
now
taken place.

There are no real changes in the list at this time, nor are any
expected.
Things should continue as normal. The main difference is that the list
is now
located on my dedicated server, rather than on the Airstream.net site.
This
means that messages to the continuing list should be sent to
valist@xxxxxxxxxx.com, rather than to vaclist@xxxxxxxxxx.net as in the
past.
The list office is now located at
http://www.tompatterson.com/VAC/VAList/listoffice.com

I don't know of any bugs existing in this changeover as yet, but I am
sure we
will experience some. Please be patient, as they will be worked out as
quickly as possible. I certainly don't want this changeover to take any
longer, or require any more of my time and effort than you do!

The list program is the same Majordomo version 1.94.5 as was being used
by the
VAC List. There is a slight difference in the way that HTML is being
stripped, but the intent is the same. No pictures, or attachments of
any kind
will be able to be posted. This is for everyone's protection, as we
sure
don't want any kind of virus slipping through in the messages. Be aware
that
some of your signatures on your messages may now be stripped from the
message
if they are in the form of an attachment.

The list monitors continue, and for your information are:

RJ Dial
Ed Emerick
Toby Folwick
Scott Scheuermann
Daisy Welch

There were a few problems in the old VAC List "List Office" which
presented
some folks with problems in signing up for that list. I believe that
these
have all been taken care of in the new list, and that people will be
able to
sign up for the continuing list without difficulty. Let me know at
tomp@xxxxxxxxxx.com if I am wrong and you do run into any trouble.

Finally, as a subscriber to the VAC List for a number of years, I would
like
to express my personal thanks and gratitude to RJ Dial, to the List
monitors,
and to the Vintage Airstream Club for hosting the former list. I know
that I
got a lot of good information from the list, and it was a great help to
me in
my own trailering adventures. The efforts of all of these good people
are
much appreciated!

Hi Bill,

The searchable archive was and still is a separate item from the VAC mailing
list.
The old archive still exists on my site however, and it is my intent to
continue
 archiving messages from this list.

Subject: [VAL] Painting the plastic wood

Hi all,

I was looking at my trailer after I got all my construction stuff and
mess cleaned up, and it looks good, but BORING.

I went to a museum in Salem MA that has recently opened a new exhibit of
a Chinese house that they reassembled on site. Looking at the furniture,
which is painted red or and black wih gold doodads, I though maybe the
boring plastic wood might be inproved by some red and black paint and
gold dragons. All tastefully aged of course.

Don't yell at me for ruining a Vintage trailer,I will make it reversable
. It's just not that lovely as it is. I want to know if anyone painted
this stuff , with what, and how they liked it ?

Subject: [VAL] Tires (old thread)

This is a response to a thread from a week ago (or so). I deleted the
original post so the subject (probably) doesn't match.

I find a good source of tire information can be found at www.tirerack.com.
On the home page under the more prominent drop down boxes (which search
based on your vehicle model) there is a link called 'search your tire size'.

Whether or not I make my purchase through Tire Rack, their large variety of
brands make relative price comparisons easy. Keep in mind, Tire Rack is
mail order, so their prices are for tires only not mounting and balancing.
Of course if you decide to buy from them there will also be a shipping
charge (UPS or FEDEX). Even if you buy tires locally, the information at
Tire Rack can help determine a ballpark price.

(I have no business or personal relationship with Tire Rack.)

In my opinion tires are a safety and handling issue. If you want to save a
few dollars, save it deciding between high quality choices.

Subject: [VAL] Thank You

Tom and All,

I want to take this opportunity to thank you, the monitors and RJ. For
taking over this responsibility. The "List' has been, and I hope will
continue to be, a resource for Vintage Airstream Owners and Admirers. As was
previously posted by Polly Pulver this list has been a resource for the
Vintage Airstream Club. Many people, including myself were first exposed to
the club through this forum. In general, people are not aware of the
commitment of time that it takes to organize and run any of these forums.
The Vintage Airstream Club, as many of you are now aware, has a new
Webmaster, Toby Folwick. Toby and RJ know at this point how much time it
takes to manage let alone create tools that will allow the club to automate
some of its basic services to the members and the general public. The only
way to get this done is to either put in more time or divide the work
responsibility.

We collectively chose the latter.

I was personally dismayed by the feelings that came out of the discussions
both on and off list that the VAC was discarding the list. While I can
understand reasons for those feelings, that is simply not the case. VAC
members run and monitor this list and will continue to be a VAC influence in
many list discussions. After Tom volunteered to manage the list on his
server, and discussions to accept the proposal, some of the Board felt, that
because the list was moving to another server, that it would be prudent to
change the list name and remove the reference to the club. Only time will
tell if this was at all necessary.

Again I want to thank all of you that make this forum possible! Keep up the
Good Work.

Please make ALL replies to this post to wam52@xxxxxxxxxx.net

See Ya Down the Road!
