My brother and I use to go camping in my 22' safari, 2 years ago my
Brother got sick and then dyed. This spring I decided the safari was too big
For just me so I listed it for sale in the VAC classifieds for 6800$ not a
call
Or e-mall -I lowered the price & tried again -no Reponses I listed on other
As sites, n g all the while watching the small ones- Bambi, caravel etc
Prices skyrocketing in price -so I figured I'd trade it in on a new 16'
Bambi not! It would take a 2nd mortgage to do that! And it's its just as
heavy
As my 22' (I don't like the spring bars)----so I've given up on AS bought a
13' boler, not as plush but affordable! no spring bars, aro to tow
I took my as to a r v dealer near me & put it on consignment for 5600
They are opomisic we well see.if it sells good, I will have lost thousands
Of dollars & lots of time its amazing what fads will do to price of things

o yes i will miss the club events the few that we went were fun

Hi Patti,

I'm sure you reset the ball height on your hitch -- or they did in Ohio --
yes?

Sorry to hear that you don't have an "endless summer" and have to return to
work -- that's a drag! And, it's great that your dog is okay now -- what
happened to him? Your little guys are so cute.

Hi Mark,

Your Airstream would sell faster if it was the Spring and people were
thinking and wanting to take their vacations -- but summer is coming to a
close, kids are going back to school and most vacations during the summer
are all but over for many.

Don't give up hope, your Airstream is the size that a lot of people want! I
know I will have trouble selling my 29' Airstream Classic whenever I get
ready to do so, it's bigger than the 22' Airstream you have and I've got 2
axles and 4 tires to replace when that time comes, etc. After all, you
wouldn't want your Airstream that you and your brother camped with to go to
just anyone, would you?

As far as giving up Airstreams -- why do you have to do that? There are
always buddy rallies where other brands are welcome -- you knew that, didn't
you?

I see you are out on Long Island -- what city? We have relatives out in
Hicksville.

You ARE staying on this list aren't you? I hope so!

This is a great explanation for the older wiring.
Someone needs to put this on a Web site so others years from now can
read it..

The wiring diagrams for the 1964-1988 models are on the Airstream Factory
site http://www.airstream.com/product_line/customer_service/maintenance.tea
I was one of the lucky ones...mine had already been converted to modern 7
pin and worked perfectly when plugged in. :>)

Thanks for your concern Roger. Nick is on the mend. The vet called me
last night to say he'd done some research and thought he had suffered
from an inner ear disease that usually befalls older dogs, so they had
previously discounted it. The antibiotics should take care of it and he
should make a full recovery. He had convulsed for three days throwing
his head around and couldn't walk, very stiff and very scary!

PS. When backing into my driveway I DIDN'T drag my rearend!!!!!!!!!!

Point is, that Airstream's connections have changed at least once or
twice over the decades, and any trailer on the road probably has
been changed too, but not necessarily. That's why it may be necessary
to identify each circuit as I described earlier, by applying power
through the large lamp so there's no smoke when ground is found.
I have had this issue with ALL of the units I have owned!
Inevitably some goober has done HIS or HER own wiring before I get to them so
I am always prepared to rewire the plug when I go to pick up a new purchase!
I take a short pigtail and a new male end to match the female plug on my
truck with me and after identifying the hot wire from the battery I just take one
plug port at a time and loop it from the hot to the respective port and then
see what lights up I.E. marker lamps inside lights Etc. The breaks usually make
some sort of noise,..... BIG SPARK<<<<that would be the ground LOL!
Then on a piece of paper using a diagram like the one Mark has shared, I
record my findings and arrange the wires to match my trucks set up! Always a
challenge but so is owning the big toaster!
That's why we LOVE EM!

I just noticed that the fan over the stove blows instead of sucks. I
had cleaned it up last spring, but just now used it. I assumed that I
had wired it with the wrong polarity. I changed the wiring and it still
blows. I then took the fan out and tested it on the bench. Either way
12 vdc is connected, the fan runs the same direction, and that is the
wrong direction. I thought DC motors ran both directions depending on
the polarity of the input voltage.

Now what? Anyone have a suggestion?

Best Regards,

Turn the fan around the other direction? ;-)

A DC motor with a permanent magnet field does change direction with
changing the armature polarity. A wound field DC motor runs the same
direction for either external polarity. To change the direction of rotation
you will have to take the motor apart and interchange the wires going
to the field ends or the wires going to the brushes. You have to change
the relative polarity of the field and armature to change direction.

For my '68 Caravel ceiling fan, I found the commutator had such deep
grooves that it spent most of its energy dragging the brushes through
them so I replaced it with a permanent magnet motor that I'd bought
from W.W. Grainger years ago. Then I wired up a new switch that is
center off and lets me run the fan either direction, at my choice.

W.W. Grainger part number 2M197.

A simple solution IF there's room. Be sure to turn the motor end for end,
and that the cupped side of the fan blades face downstream.
