Toby,

Chances of the open house being rescheduled is VERY minute. The weather here
has been great. We are so used to International being 100+ degrees that the
70's and 80's that we are experiencing seems like heaven.

Look me up again---I promise that I will immediatly make time for you
(unless my family is urgently calling!!!!)

Thanks for the info, Mark. The baby moons look pretty good. Does anyone
with a Bubble know if they will fit or is a bigger - full moon style -
required. I looked at the picture on how to measure so I'll try that as
well.

For information.

I have been looking for a flag pole holder that attaches to the trailer
jack, and was having trouble until I did a search on my own site.

A place that is recommended on the site is one by the name of Pole Ease.
The telephone number on the site, however, is incorrect. The correct number
is (517) 536-8022. They do carry the holders, with one hole, three holes
and five holes.

Unfortunately, we could not make it to international this year. We planned
to, but a family death earlier in the year (in MI, of all places) wiped out
our vacation time. I will really miss the Vintage Open House.

But, I'm just wondering... (and I really don't mean to sound negative about
this)

Why is the open house on a Wednesday? Aren't we part of a club (WBCCI) that
is seeing declining interest in membership? Isn't the VAC a great way to
spawn interest in younger potential members? Why wouldn't the open house be
held on a weekend when more potential new Airstream devotees could attend?
I recall the open house being a public event; a time to welcome people from
the area to see what vintage Airstreaming is all about. I met a wonderful
family at last year's open house that happened to live near the exposition
grounds in VT. They were very intrigued and interested in owning a vintage
Airstream. That was exciting to me.

These are just my thoughts, and before anyone says it, I know I should be
more involved in VAC leadership if I want to have more of a say. I just
think this hobby and lifestyle of ours is pretty cool and I think we should
take the opportunity to share it with others, not just ourselves.

Oh absolutely!

In fact, I was considering the product as an option for re-chroming some of
my dull hubcaps, taillight mounts, perhaps the bumpers and tongue. I figure
a pint or so would probably do it.

Wally,

The rally is convened during the "week of July 4th" ever year because that
was Wally Byam's birthday. So if the 4th happens to fall on a Saturday like
it did this year the vintage open house has to be scheduled somewhere
in-between the opening and the closing day which happens to be July 4th
which also happens to be the very *last day* of this year's rally.

So, the vintage open house would have had to have been last weekend -- but
the vintage trailers didn't come in together *until* last Saturday, I
believe that was June 26th. With the vintage trailers having to get all set
up and parked, lines run, water hooked up and so much else I would doubt
that even by the next day (last Sunday) that they'd have been ready for
public company paying a call to visit.

On the other hand, these rallies are planed (I believe) 3 years in advance
and they also involve advance teams going to the agreed to sites years in
advance. Maybe, just maybe, there needs to be more publicity in the cities
that will be hosting the rallies so that people who want to visit the
vintage trailers when the open house is "scheduled" on the events calendar
can make their own plans way ahead of time.

All in all, I think it has to do when July 4th falls, which day during the
week when the rally is scheduled. If an entire weekend was involved as
would happen if the rally started on say a Wednesday, there wouldn't be a
question about the vintage open house being held on a weekend.

Subject: RE: [VAL] Rally Open House for Vintage Trailers

You are right, July 4th is Sunday, which also happens to be the last day of
the rally. Everyone is scheduled to be out by July 5th. Still a big
problem considering when the vintage group came in last Saturday -- and the
wet ground and mud didn't help speed up anything either. I understand lots
of people had to be taken in and moved around by tractors -- both trailers
and tow vehicles.

I haven't been to a vintage open house -- but if it lasts all day it would
be a disaster to have it on the last day of the rally, or even the day
before the last day of the rally when lots of business has to get done by
the attendees.

People who want to get into Airstreaming and visiting those with Airstreams
are free to call the WBCCI headquarters anytime to find out Region schedules
for unit rallies, etc. That would be a good start and a work around for
this year especially -- they could visit many unit and regional rallies
during the year instead of being limited to just one day like at the
international rally.

Not making excuses here at all, but I'd bet that the main issue of when
things are scheduled has a lot to do when July 4th falls, on which day of
the week.

People who really want to see vintage Airstreams or even new Airstreams
won't wait until there is a vintage open house near them in the USA to do
so. Those people will make plans that work for them as they do their
homework and research to see if an Airstream is in their future. Lots of
others have done that before us.
