Hmcsteph,

Would you recommend cutting a smaller opening, or am I misunderstanding
what you mean by "unsightly gaps"? I have the same project planned using the
same AC unit. Did you install the Airstream drip pan from Inland RV under
the Penguin, and were you able to locate pre-existing power line and drain
tube?

Finally got my VAL working again. Nice to be back.
The top cover for the power jack on my '73 Sovereign has disintegrated. The
jack works fine, so no need to replace it, but the duct tape isn't exactly
what I had in mind for a replacement. Any suggestions for acquiring a
replacement cover? I think it is a Reese.

Several years ago we had stated value insurance on a horse. I learned that if we had had
a total loss we would have had to have proved that she was worth that much. We probably
could have proven it as we insured her for what we paid for her.
You can't obtain coverage of $100,000 on a $1,000 trailer just by stating that it is worth
$100,000. You may get such a policy, and pay the premiums based on your stated value, but
if you have a loss that is more than the trailer's actual value that can be substantiated
the insurer will almost certainly challenge you.
Your claim of $8,000 value might not be challenged if it appears reasonable.

Subject: [VAL] Re: VAL Digest V1 #253 - Liability insurance on travel trailer?

What company is that?

According to my co. (Progressive) there is no such thing as vehicular liability insurance
for noncommercial trailers. You can get homeowner's-like insurance but that is coverage
like you have on a fixed house, such as to cover the neighbor's kid who falls off your
trailer's bumper while it is parked.

The question came up when discussing titling a travel trailer with Oregon DMV, whose employees
(2 of them) insisted that I had to show proof of liability insurance to register my TT. 2
Oregon Progressive agents assured me that not only was it not required (no space on the
title/registration app for insurance info), it was not available.
They explained that liability insurance on a TT was similar to that included in a homeowner's
policy; that it was part of TT coverage that is available. They also explained that this
liability insurance would not cover a moving accident; that only the tow vehicle's insurance
covered that.
The only way TT liability insurance would cover a collision would be in a situation where the
trailer was parked and rolled away or a windstorm threw it into someone else's property.
Al

...........................
BTW, I only have liability insurance on my '68 which protects me if I get
into an accident, but I get nothing for collision or comprehensive. Costs about $6 a year on
my car policy, but like I said, I have no protection for damage to the trailer.

Randy,

I don't know if this is what you're after but I've used an antifreeze bottle
with the top cut off. It served as UV and weather protection for the jack
head. I spray painted mine silver.

Most insurance claims representatives will price shop 3 or more (if they can
find them) trailers they consider to be comparable -- same model and model
year -- and base their settlement on those values. It would be very
difficult for them to find three '68 Tradewinds comparable to my restored
model so the "best" they could/would do likely would be to find three
"average" 68 Tradewinds. I doubt I could find three either.
