Patti, Colin, Susanne, Malcolm & anyone else,

We're planning to go to the Cherry Blossom Rally, though chores (making
cushion covers, getting rid of the pink goo in the tanks, getting our brakes
inspected, ect.) may stall us from actually bringing our trailer out until Friday
(though do have Thurs off from work). The other thing is that one of our cats
got sick last week so I need to hunt down a petsitter to give medicines to her.
But all things working ok, it will be our maiden voyage (outside of picking
her up).

By the way, I was informed yesterday that nobody in the Washington DC Unit
actually lives around there! That's SO wrong! We joined because it appeared to
be the local group (and there is here)! I will wait until the weekend to
draw final conclusions, but I am hypothesizing that the name is such because the
rest of y'all are just wanna-be Washingtonians (nudge, nudge, wink, wink,
knowwhadamean, knowwadamean)... But I have to give it to you, if you are coming a
long way to be with the local crowd <g>, the effort is appreciated!

Speaking of which, the weather is rather grey, cold and clammy right now.
The forecast is for rain starting today and continuing through Friday...then it
will become sunny, but remain cold (highs in the lower 50s, lows in the 30s).
So, dress warmly and be prepared for mud. The good side to this is that the
Cherry Blossoms are expected to hit peak bloom (70% Yoshinos in bloom) with
the cool temps through the weekend. For more info check out this website:

Mary,

Nice to hear from you and all the good info about DC. You must be the
"resident" Unit member! ;)

Seriously, lots of others have joined the DC Unit *because* the group has a
load of vintage Airstream owners. With the formation of the DC Unit the
members have sort of a "vintage group" of sorts without the formality or
confines of guidelines, rules, etc. that would govern them in a way sort of
like the WBCCI Intra-Club, Vintage Airstream Club.

This is just "my understanding" of yet another reason that the DC Unit has
members from all over. AND, they truly do like to get together for some fun
and good times which is what Airstreaming and the WBCCI are all about in the
first place.

I'm sure you might be able to get your other Unit members to give you the
honorary post of "resident" DC Unit rep. ;)

Best,
Tom

The Washington D. C. Unit was started (I believe by Tom Howarth) as a
Vintage unit. To give those Vintage owners an option rather than to have to
join their local non-vintage oriented WBCCI Unit.

It's always been primarily a Vintage unit, with few or no local members, as
a convenience for Vintage owners.

interest, I think.

By Bill Scott on Sunday, February 27, 2000 - 05:08 pm:

Howdy Listers, I've been back from my big trip east for almost a week and
just now, I'm getting caught up. I left Texas on Nov 1st and went east,
crossed the mighty Miss, then went north and east thru Alabama, Tenn, and
VA. The Shenendoah valley was beautiful, snow flurries one night while I
snoozed for free at a Flying J parking lot. Bambi was comfy and cozy. The
next day I cruised into the Appalachian campsites and set up for the Fall
Fling. VAC'ers started arriving on Thursday from all points of the compass.
By Thursday evening Happy hour, at Terry and Sandie Tylers trailer, we had
about 20 trailers and 50 people. The weather was perfect, the leaves were 3
feet deep, the fire was warm and the 'Streamers' were happy to be together.
The next day, the remainder of the group pulled in from Ontario, Wisconsin,
New Hampshire, London in the UK, and other points east and west. We had a
nice open house on Saturday morning with about 25 trailers and a real gab
fest. Saturday afternoon, the Washington DC Unit, had its historic first
meeting, with over 20 members and affiliates in attendence, including the
Region 2 President, Wilson Yerk and his lovely wife Cindy. The region 2
Historian, Barry and Lesley Heckenswiler, were there to record the event.
The meeting went smoothly and later we all met for a hugh pot-luck, where
John and Ester Dona provided Roast Beef for all. As a surprise ending,
Wilson and Cindy Yerk conducted a wonderful installation ceremony, where all
the new officers of the DC unit were installed and welcomed. The next day,
being Sunday, we all gradually packed up and headed out, hoping to meet
again soon and share our travel experiences. If anyone is interested in
joining the 'new' Washington DC unit, just let me know.

Yup. The late Bill Scott was the first membership chairman, and Tom Howarth
was the Founder of the unit.

Mary (and Rick),
I am sorry I am unable to attend the WDCU CBR this
year. I will really miss getting to meet you.
Your comment about the locals is partially true. We do
have a few but we are truly an international unit. We
have several members, I am unsure of the exact count
at the moment, who reside over the "big drink" from us
here in the USA and many who are from the country
north of us, too. I think this is one of the most
interesting aspects about our unit! The overall
diversity of the unit is what originally attracted me
to it.
Good luck with your maiden voyage. Enjoy the CBR. You
will meet some really wonderful people. It is a really
great Rally even in cool, wet weather. After all, "we
are just camping!"

Fred, the jack is yours! I'll bring it to Colorado with me. The margarita's clinched the deal!

Colin, You can split them with Wayne Moore, he also wants them. Yes, I'll be at the Cherry
Blossom Rally this weekend and will bring them with me.

Good thing I didn't save the fridge (gave it to the A/S mechanic as a thank you for superior
work!) water heater or furnace, I wouldn't have room in the Suburban to cart it all to rallies
to distribute!

It was exactly in response to Bill's message that we joined the WDCU. We
once were stationed in DC, so it was of interest to us. We are mostly
fulltimers and aren't around to participate in a local unit. We have yet
to attend the Cherry Blossom Rally or any other get together, but we may
one day be in the same place at the same time for one of the rallies.
