I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want
gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,
unitedaction. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes
MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that
was going
around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because
they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy
gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really
work.

Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super
cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost! of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we
need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace....not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers
need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas
come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas!
And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on
our
cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas
prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline
from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If
they
are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow
suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of
Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp
out on me at this point...keep
reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches
the
sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers! If those three million get excited and ! pass this on to ten
friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it
goes
one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you
don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is
send this to 10 people... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a
mathematician.
But I am .... so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't
think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can
make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT
UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS
CAN REALLY WORK.

Looking for information on skin repair. We have about a 4 inch cut in the
alumunim skin. It has penitrated four about 3 inchs. Does anyone know how to
repair this or had it done, and what we might be looking at as far as cost of such
a repair. Looking at buying this trailer, gave deposit and now it's damaged.
Should I get the trailer, or pass to find another one. Need info right away,
the gentleman is waiting for my decision.

Hi, Chuck,

I had a puncture about that size on my longest, streetside lower panel. With advice
from the list, I ended up getting the entire panel replaced by an aircraft repair shop.
I was very pleased with how it turned out, but it did cost about $3,000 if I remember
correctly (insurance covered it). The other way to go is to do a patch or a patch
disguised as an access panel. Good luck with you decision, and let me know if I can
answer any questions in more detail.

Chuck,
I had the same problem on my 1978 Ambassador when I bought it. The PO had
filled the cut with silicon. It does not leak but the folks at Jackson
Center suggested that I get all of the silicon out, clean the skin well and
fill it again with vulkum. The other option would be to replace the panel
which is something I really do not want to do.

I wonder why the factory would not do a flush patch. That is the damaged
area is cut out and trimmed, a patch of the same thickness is made to go
inside the cutout space and there is a backing plate to hold it all together
on the backside of the exterior skin. Flush rivets would be used and all
pieces would be 'wet' with sealer before installation with a product like
PRC which is used in aircraft work. Do it right and it will outlast the
trailer. A very good aircraft sheetmetal mechanic should be able to do this
type of patch. Depending on where it is located is the big issue and how
much time and trouble it would take to get to the backside of the exterior
skin are some of the deciding factors when it comes to cost.

If it's a great trailer otherwise I'd want a nice discount which will go to
having the repair done. The seller is going to take a hit on his asking
price, no doubt about that.

But IF it's a great trailer and IF you get a discount for the damaged metal
I'd still think about buying it IF you've done your homework.

Thank you Tom for finally posting that. besides it being totally off topic to

Greetings!

There are two well-known suppliers of drapes and interior products for
Airstreams and Argosys. The first, is active in mail-order, James P.
Ambruso, Inc. (http://www.jpadrapes.com/ ). The second, is more
accustomed to personally doing the work while the coach is at their
shop, Fowler Interiors of Sympsonia, Kentucky (fowlerinteriors@xxxxxxxxxx.net
).

Fowler Interiors have refurbished the entire interior on both of my
coaches. The work that Arlene and Henry Fowler do is beyond reproach.
(IMHO) They have refurbished the interiors with a true sense of
maintaining the Vintage feel and appearance with modern fabrics and
finishes. Symsonia is about 25 miles East of Paducah, Kentucky just a
short distance from US Highway 68.

Do you have a micrometer? Chances are you will need one at some point in
time so if you don't have one to measure with you might think about buying
one now that you are doing repairs. A micrometer can be bought that
measures from 0" - 1" ,1" - 2", etc. Buy the 0" - 1" for your current
application and read up on how to read the measurements. A good micrometer
will give you measurements up into the 10/thousandths of an inch.

Sorry but I don't know the info you are asking for but I am telling you
about a tool that will work for you.

Subject: Re: [VAL] Aluminum gauge

The ordinary q shaped micrometer can't be used for overlapping sheets. A
depth gauge works, or for a first approximation you can use a stack of
known thicknesses, paper or card stock, aluminum sheets, Steel or brass
shim stock or feeler gauges. Or cigarette papers. Machinists depend on
cigarette paper being .0030" thick per sheet. Find where the aluminum
sheet to be replaced laps over the adjacent sheet. Stack up your
measuring materials until your finger finds them the same height.
Sliding from one to the other you should sense a difference less than
.003".

Or more precisely than just sliding a finger from unknown to lay a
straight edge over the two materials, and use a thin feeler gauge to
measure the difference in height. It takes a bit of practice with a
feeler gauge to learn the proper drag on the feeler to know its the
right gap.

In my shop, I keep a dial vernier as well as standard micrometers. The
dial vernier has the advantages of quick reading, several inches of
range, useable for exterior, interior, and depth measurements in one
tool. 0.001 is the limit to its precision and a good micrometer will do
.0001 resolution and precision. But aluminum sheet comes in standard
thickness several thousandths different for each standard gauge so the
stack of cigarette paper may be close enough.

Its possible different parts of the 1948 Liner used different
thicknesses of aluminum. And surely working some into domed shape with
the English wheel makes parts of those sheets to be thinner than other
parts.

J. P. Ambruso in Florida is an excellent source. Excellent to do business
with, and excellent workmanship and materials. I ordered a set of drapes
for my 25 ft. Tradewind and was very pleased with the results. Also, his
prices are very reasonable for the product he provides.

He has a number of standard fabrics and an insulated liner (the latter is
very important to keep the sun from cooking the drapes and the interior of
your trailer - this is not the "blackout" [opaque] fabric.).

I don't know if he will make drapes with a customer supplied fabric.
