Hi Group,
I don't write to the VAC discussion group often,
however I thought I would today. I am getting ready
for my second journey out with my "68" International
AS and want you all to know how much we have enjoyed
the old girl. Even though it sat ideal for a full
year... she was hooked up next to my shop. I found
myself taking naps in the "perfect get away spot". My
sons hooked up there xbox and found the perfect
"playhouse". My friends that visited and needed a
place to stay found the "perfect guest house". Now, we
leave for Mexico and she will become the "perfect
Ocean Beach House". I hope all of you find as much
pleasure as I have with the "PERFECT TRAILER".
Thanks,

I have a 1963 TradeWind that I am trying to get road
ready. It has been sitting for a while, and previous
owners had it set up for stationary living.Does anyone
have a 110/12Volt wireing diagram and a plumbing
diagram. Currently the trailer has a fresh water tank
that is not hooked up and no water pump, Any
sugesstions would be helpful.

WBCCI would not exist if it weren't for Airstream Co. VAC would not exist if it weren't
for WBCCI. The List, so kindly hosted now by Tom and managed beautifully by Toby would
not exist if it weren't for folks who want to help and share their knowledge of these
lovely old aluminum beauties. Let's try not to beat the living daylights out of the topics,
attacking the assistance that those we share with are attempting to give, and just try and
live in peace here. It's JUST an Airstream....and just about anything can be fixed. It's
sad, as I believe Bob is saying...when folks just get out of hand and nasty!

So why don't you (who so respects the hallowed written articles of the group show us

propose an amendment to the current articles (constitution,by-laws etc) through the

My Goodness do you Wallyites actually swear an oath..? Upon what? A bolt of Blue Fancy!??
Warned by whom? Is there a provision for a judicial branch or officer?

So a member must be given permission to join another organization..?? Holy Monococque!
I guess before that oath yall lined up and signed a non-compete contract ?? hmmm?????

Hmmmm again, Not that you would or (are) doing just that! ???????

Sort of reminds me of what the MTV rap promoters say about changing the channel.

This post of yours sounds alot more re-active than Pro active to me.

I have no doubt that the day will arrive when you and Toby and a 'few' others
will see all your WBCCI wishes met.
Have patience .In the interim kick back with a good book...maybe something

Hi Steve,

Is your unit a single axle or tandem? If it is tandem, I might have tires
that you could use. Of course, a single axle requires a much heavier tire.
I have a Safari '69 single axle 23' and an Argosy '74 tandem axle 22'

Too bad you are so far away as I have 4 Carlisle 700-15 that turned out to
be too large (29 inch diameter) for my '74 Argosy. Had to go with the
Goodyear 225s (28 inch diameter). After installing the Carlisle's on the
rims, I had to have them taken off. Once on the rims, there isn't any
possibility of exchange. So, they sit on a shelf in my garage.

If you are interested, I can provide you with exact specification for the
Carlisle's. They are bias 6 ply rated for trailer use, not radials. Some
like radials, some don't. I was going back to what was available when the
trailer was manufactured.
These were on/off the rims, never rolled on the road. Date of manufacture
is now about one year ago as I got them as fresh as possible. Maybe $20
each? Most likely shipped UPS from 24589.

Regards,

'69 Safari, Joy

David,

There is one WBCCI unit for the state of Minnesota. However before you get
disheartened, you never know where most of the members live within the
state, nor do you know where they hold their activities. Give it a try for a
year. Attend as many of their activities as you can. You will never know
until you try. You may be pleasantly suprised or you might be turned off.
But you will never know until you give it a try.

The Minnesota Unit's membership chairman is Gary Burnham, 22124 Woodland Ln,
Rogers, MN 55374. If you can't get a hold of him send me an email, I can
provide contact info for the other officers.

Just an short announcement to let the list readers know about the "Silver
Trailer Social"; a rally for pre-1970 trailers to be held May 13-16 in
Calistoga California (an hour north of San Francisco).

This is an event for pre 1970 trailers - not just Airstreams. Since this is
not a WBCCI event, it was not included in the VAC calendar this year. The
event is not sponsored by any club. This is the second year that we have
hosted this "just for fun" event.

I need to give the campground a count by the middle of March. If you are
interested in attending you can find detailed information and the
registration form on the web at:

Hi Fellow VAC'rs
We live in Northern lower Michigan. The International will be only 250 miles
south of our home! We have never been to an International before. We have been
to one R4 rally and a couple of Michigan unit events. I have lots of
questions.

1. When the VAC caravans to the rally, can I join the caravan, if so,
where, when & cost? It seems like a fun thing to be part of the group.
2. Is it too late to get connected?
3. Will the VAC park together on site or at the "alternate parking" site?
You polished trailer owners can use our dull & rust streaked trailer as a
"not yet restored" example. The only thing that shines on our trailer is a new
gas regulator & new steel rims.
4. Will I get blocked in or will I be able to leave early? I work full time
& can't stay for an entire week. Cindy won't be joining me since she can't get
any time off in July.
5. I haven't decided on weather to attend the beginning half with the
caravan or the ending half of the rally. Any comments on which would be better
for a "first timer"?
6. If I decide to arrive during the last half of the rally, Can I register
& pay at the gate instead of registering & sending money now?
7. Is there any pro-rated system for those who will only be there for 2 or
3 days? Or a day pass for someone attending only one day & not bringing a
trailer at all?

Your comments or experiences would be helpful. Feel free to respond off list
if you feel that is the better way.
Thank you

Good news again from the plant. The service technician who is working
on my FC called me today just to chat about her progress and to ask me
a question about how I wanted to handle the installation of the Newport
Propane Fireplace. He asked if it was my 67 Safari that he had worked
on four years ago!

He said that the new hot water heater was in and installed where the
old 110 heater was. New fresh water tank installed in the front under
the window where the old one was. (previous owner had removed all
self-contained water system) He hooked the side door light to the new
12 volt system. (was only 110) He was in the process of installing the
propane fireplace and wanted to know if it was OK to put a new wall to
mount it on as the old one had several inches cut off the bottom and
would have to be patched. The best news was that he got the old fridge
up and running! (remember those at La Veta, I couldn't get it started)
He had it going all day and it was making ice!!!! (50 year old
fridge!!)

In talking to him about all the improvements I don't know who was more
excited about Pearl, him or me!! I really feel good about having taken
her to the plant. The guys in the service area take pride in their work
and his strong feelings about restoring the oldies was apparent.

I sent them a new axle today that I had ordered last Aug. but didn't
have time to have installed before leaving for the VAC rally in La
Veta. I can hardly wait to get her back.

Patti (seriously thinking about selling the 03 Safari to pay for all
this!)

That guy had the same Airstream on EBay about a year ago, with no takers.

Steve ,
To my knowledge , there isnt any wiring diagram for a 63 tradewind or any
other models of that era . Which is too bad .. I had an chance to draw one
but didnt , thats even worse ! I did make some notes and marked the wires
as I replaced them .
When I took the inner skin out of my 63 flying cloud , this is more or
less how it was . the 110 comes in behind the streetside wheel . from there
it goes to a fuse box under the bathroom sink . from that there are two
wires ,one goes to a junction box in the closet , and from there to the
overhead light , inside that is another junction which heads of to the
furnace and the curbside fixtures . The other wire goes from the fusebox
and runs the streetside stuff .If I recall correctly , they might cross
over the roof and run the front lights on the opposite side for some
unknown reason .My trailer isnt here and its all covered up again now . I
wish I had had an electrician put in more circuits now , but I just
carefully replaced the old wire with new and left it as it was done factory
. There is an awfull lot of outlets per circuit , but I guess they had it
engineered and I dont use many power hungry appliances ,at least not all at
once . I do most of my camping in state parks or the north woods here so I
use my solar powered 12 volts more anyway .
the twelve volts start at the battery go to the streetside front light
add branch out from there to the compresser (Or pump) , the other front
light ,and to the rear light . from there it goes to the bath , furnace
and kitchen light ,
I hope this helps , it is somewhat simplified and maybe not totally
correct as my memory isnt that good .
When I got the trailer , the ac worked but the dc didnt . The dc had a
place where a grommet had slipped out from an oversized hole in a bulkhead
(factory) and had chaffed and shorted enough to burn the wire completely
off .
The ac which worked had several places where rodents had chewed the
insulation bare , behide the inner skin . Miraculously it never caught fire
.
So if your power is sketchy , it may be more than meets the eye , and
may be quite a job to repair and diagnose . Get yourself a voltmeter and
check it out . I will sleep better with my new wires but it is no small job
getting to them !
