The end caps on an Argosy are not aluminum, but are a single piece of
galvanized steel (which is why Argosy have smooth end caps and not the
multiple pieces of aluminum rivited together). I cannot imagine that you
could ever get the steel to look even remotely close in appearance to the
unpainted aluminum, and it would certainly rust if it was stripped.  I had
my Argosy painted silver by a professional car shop and it turned out great.
It is shinner than most Airstreams from that era and never needs to be
polished.
