RE: [VACList] rims for 1970 airstream needed

Greetings Jerry!

There are any number of sources for rims appropriate for your Airstream.
My local Good Year retailer ordered the rims when I purchased the tires
for my '64 Overlander. The critical thing is to be certain that the rim
has a sufficient load carrying rating and matches the offset and other
critical measurements of the original. My Good Year dealer contacted my
regular Airstream dealer to get the necessary measurements for the
wheels. I believe that you can find the measurements as well as the
rims at Inland RVs web site at:

For safety's sake, avoid the temptation to purchase automotive or light
truck rims that won't have the necessary weight carrying ability. An
example of what can happen with an unknown salvage yard wheel can be
seen at:

The only reason that I mention the above is that I had one wheel that
came with my coach of unknown origin and it had begun to show the early
signs of the problems illustrated in the above page which caused me to
replace all of the wheels on my coach. The records that came with the
coach showed where the original owner had replaced the original split
rims with new wheels and wheel covers from an Airstream dealer in 1977 -
- the second owner economized by buying used wheels and tires from a
junkyard so it was impossible to tell if any of the wheels on my coach
were truly safe.

Good luck with your search!
