[VAC] Re: Rivets

Dick,

A bucked rivet requires access to both sides of the rivet. The method involves
an air hammer on the outside and a solid or "bucking:" block on the inside.
Takes two to tango on these things. Bucking rivets are inexpensive and can be
installed very quickly by an experienced crew. The finished outside gives a
very aerodynamically smooth finish. The repair replacement, a shaved head or
Olympic rivet, can be made to fit and look very similar. The advantage of the
shaved head rivet is it is applied much like a pop rivet requiring only one
person and only outside access. The drawback is in it's name. In order to
"finish" the rivet it is necessary to shave the head. Shaving the head
generally requires a special tool but can result in a smooth finished head.
