Don:
I think the hinge should be in the front.... All the Fantastic Vents I have 
seen are installed this way... I would think it would not matter unless you 
were under way... then you might tear the lid off the thing...   Did you 
get the curved bezel for the inside??   The outside is apparently flat and 
the extra space around the edge is Vulkem...
