[VAC] Re: Trans rebuild

Ed, now you know why even when the manual says its OK to tow in OD that many
people will not do so unless they are sure that they have a heavy duty
tranny. To solve your problem there should be heavy duty application parts
that will fit into your tranny when they rebuild it. Basically they will be
gutting and rebuilding, not just fixing the current problem. You just might
be happier with a new from the factory heavy duty tranny. I would at least
check on pricing/availability.

I would suggest against a package that would alter when the tranny shifts.
My dad did this many years ago and was very unhappy with the wiplash we all
got when driving solo. The poor guy spent at least 15K trying to make that
1/2 ton Suburban into a real tow vehicle (his trailer weighed about 7500#).
He gave up after the second engine rebuild in 3 years/20K miles. He then
spend 20K on a truck that was made for the job and never had another towing
related failure.
