[VAC] Airstream coatings

I have  seen the name of  the finish on Airstreams called "Plasticoat" 
and "Clear Coat".  As I have heard folks discuss the removing of this 
finish, most recently using Ammonia, and the lack of success  verus the 
success others, it begs the question, are these actually two different 
compounds or are they the same product just using different names at 
different time periods.?
